Hey everyone. I've been reading everything I could on here for a couple months while I shopped for a car. I just purchased an 08 GXP. I have always driven a truck and decided I wanted something different/fun to commute with. This car is very fun to drive. I love the V8 sound. I do have a couple quick noobie questions.
    1. The ride is stiff. Now I realize the ride should be stiff, but anytime I hit a somewhat square edge it sounds horrible like the front end is bottoming. For example railroad tracks are bad or running over a man hole cover at speed. If I am just rolling through it like in a parking lot its fine. I want to think struts, but I can barely get the car to move bouncing on it so I would think they are ok. Any ideas are appreciated.
    2. This also has to do with ride quality. The previous owner has 225/50/18's on all 4 corners. Could the fact that is not the proper tire of 255/45/18's be causing some of my ride problems? Is there any issue running the 225's on all 4 corners?

Like I said I am used to driving a Ford truck and not a car so I can't really diagnose whats correct and whats not at this point. I'm sure I will have a lot more questions to ask as I figure it out.

    1. Might be sway bushing causing some of the clunking. Could also be control arm bushing or strut mounts.

    2. The factory sizes are 255/45 fronts and 225/50 rears because the rims are 18x8 fronts and 18x7 rears, its cheaper and a better idea to run 245/45/18 all the way around so you can rotate the tires like a normal car. You can still run the tires that are on the car all the way around.

Welcome, I also have an 08 GXP. I had a 04 GTP before and several others. The ride from the GTP to the GXP is different. I love my GXP but the ride is stiff. The bilstein struts are made to ride firm, I asked the same question about mine. Post some pics!

That red looks like sex. I haven't seen many red GXP's, usually just silver and that deep purple. Very nice car.

HA. Nice. I like the red. Mine is plain ole silver. I understand firm. I'm pretty sure mine is bottoming. Love the car and I'm not going to let a rough ride or a little maintenence scare me away. I plan to keep this one for a long time.

I love my Canuck springs. Really lowered the **** out of it. Rides pretty rough, though.

I'd say fairly close to that. Not positive though, never measured beforehand. They're great though.

Well after doing some more checks, it looks like my front drivers, side strut is bad. I believe thats why I have been having bottoming/floating issues. Going to order up a new set and see how that works. I'm really tempted to go cheap with a monroe sensatrac strut, but then again you can't have a car like this and turd it up with wal-mart parts.

Ok this is the dumbest noob question ever. What color should the rear struts on the GXP be? I would assume they would be yellow. While crawling around my car I noticed the rear struts were black. There were not tags on them at all. I'm thinking in the 5 year history of the car they got changed out for a monroe shock, but I want to make sure before I replace them.
