Hey, everyone. I'm not sure if this is the best area to post this, but I'm definitely a noob so I guess it's as good as any. I have a 1997 Grand Prix SE 3.8L naturally aspirated engine, and it didn't want to start about a week ago. The fuel pump sounds like it's just about dead so my brother told me I need to get a new fuel pump. With that said, I looked around for the best price and on Ebay I found this:
New Fuel Pump with Sending Unit 25179345 Pontiac Grand Prix 97 1997 | eBay

That one said it works on my vehicle, but then it says "Vin 1, Supercharged, Second Design Location : In-Tank" I was somewhat worried about that since my car isn't supercharged, but it said it fits a naturally aspirated engine so I checked with the seller. They notified me that it would work for my vehicle. However, after I ordered it they told me that it wouldn't fit..when I called them they were Indian, so I'm not sure their customer service knew much anyway. So, my question is, will that pump fit in my vehicle? And, what should I do, I'm stuck at this point on what to do..and I'm sick of not having a vehicle. Oh, and the fuel pump came in today.

Thanks for your time !! I appreciate it!

It will fit yes. That setup has a venturi system on it. Which your factory assembly does not have.

I have never heard of that brand so I can not give you any info on the quality..But that is very "cheap" for a complete sending unit.

Well, this is my first car, I'm really not too sure on what I'm doing but I want to do it right so I'm here lol. So, you're saying that the pump won't give my engine any problems? I was worried that since it's a supercharged pump it would put too much fuel into my engine and cause major problems. If I have to I'll get a different one, but if this one will work, I'll use it

That is pretty cheap for an entire assembly. When I replaced the one in my GTP it was $150 and I thought that was really cheap.

thats pretty damn cheap, and you get what you pay for 99% of the time.

if the gas gauge still works, just buying a the fuel pump and changing that is much cheaper. that whole basket for sale on that listing is the sender and pump, you can pull the pump out, and change it and then drop you old sender back in.

just a pump runs 30 to 40 most of the time. for a good name brand, not some who are these people parts......

this is what you get when you buy just the pump, nothing else, the silver barrel is the pump, yes that small thing.

this is a performance pump, but a stock one looks just the same.

I actually have one that I'm willing to part with. I bought it for the GTP before I decided to replace the whole thing.

I know it's pretty cheap, but oddly I saw a lot of them going for this price. It was either around $60 or around $250 really no leeway in between lol. The gas gauge actually hasn't worked since I bought the car. It's stuck at a little over half way...another problem I have with it that I wanted to look into. I was thinking it was a fuse, or something wrong with the dash because it looks like the owner before me messed with the dash, but it could very well be the fuel pump. When I get my boyfriend to take it apart, he's going to look at my pump first to see if it's something little. If it is, I'll just get a replacement kit as you suggested! Thank you so much!

if the gas gauge is broke, you then want to get the whole thing, pump and sender, like in the link you posted.

im just saying buy cheap, and you get cheap, yes it may last a year or 2, or maybe a month. its a crap shoot. they sell them used for around 50 or less as well.

if you dont have a local junk yard, "partslady" sells parts, send her a PM, ( heard good stuff about her sales too) used oem parts last longer then cheap new stuff. if your on a tight budget.

If you replace the entire thing, make sure to adjust the arm for the fuel level so it is accurate. Nothing worse than having to do it over again to get the gas gauge right.

I would secong getting a good quality pump, but I do know the price difference can be hard to swallow.

She wouldn't need to adjust anything?

It has a float on it so it adjusts on its own.

easy way to do it is swap the a/c relay for the fuel pump relay

doing this tab bend out by passes the resistor, swapping the relay wont do that. if it fires up, the you need a new resistor. its in the fender by the battery.

I got you on that but IMO you should see if the relay is bad first then move on to see if its the resistor by doing the tab out.
