I bought an 01 grand prix. i love the 3.8 liter v6. Well I had an ses light come on, no big deal, right. WRONG! Started with o2 then map, upper intake warped, fuel pump replaced then maf. During the change I noticed that there was a lot of junk yard parts on this car. ok the man before me was having alot of problems and didnt want to fork out the money for new ones. Before the warped upper intake i couldnt make the thing idle after warm up, did the fix still no idle past the point of warm up. Heres the problem i found. My iac was being ran to death, by what you ask lol. There is a vacuum on the throttle body that supplies the purge solenoid and fuel pressure regulator. These things can crack and you will not know it. I did take it to a friend with a scanner. It showed everything good. Fuel trim was good, telling me no vacuum leaks. maf was reading high at idle. I even sprayed carb cleaner around to find the leaks, didnt work, even after i found the leak it made no differnce spraying it in the small crack. The unmetered air was just enough to throw everything off. Thanks to all of you that post on here. Its because of you guys pointing me in the right direction i got this thing back on the road. I think i have read every post on here lol. Keep em running and thanks for this site. P.S. had to change the iac too.
