Hello everyone I'm new to Grand Prix forum. I have a question about my 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix v6 with 40,000 miles. My GP quit on me one day while driving down the road. It turns over but wont start. It acts like the engine is starving for gas. Sometimes it will almost crank but then shut right off. When I turn the key to the acc position I can hear the Fuek pump coming on. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem with this vehicle???

No sir. The check engine light never came on.. that's what so strange about the problem. I'm wondering if maybe I got a hold of some bad gas. The day before it stopped on me I gave some one a jump start. I read a few posts in here that jump starting can be bad on newer model vehicles. Not sure why though. They didn't really explain how.

    DMACKD,

Bad fuel is a definite possibility, although it is difficult to be certain.

I recommend having the vehicle inspected by a certified technician for additional assistance.

If you need assistance locating a technician near you, please PM me your zip code.

Crank Postion Sensor will sometimes do that. Not saying that's the issue, just an observation I've noticed with some having the same issue as you described.

    Other possible issues:
fuel pump or fuel filter is clogged.

I also thought about the crank sensor. But if the crank sensor went bad would it make the car cut off after running. As far as the fuel filter where is the inline filter at on this vehicle? Having trouble finding it

My 04 seems to act the same sometimes. (not while driving however) I am able to start it after a few attempts while turning the key to on 5 times then starting it with the gas pedal depressed. It spits and sputters and eventually catches after a few tries.

Yea I'm narrowing it down to the fuel pump or something in the fuel system. My fuel pump primes when the key is turned though. This is a very unusual problem I'm having.

Bad crank sensors don't always throw a code.

Also yes a bad crank will cause misfire and stalling issues.. Doesn't matter if the car is moving or not.
