I have a 2001 pontiac grand prix 3.1 motor the problem I'm having is it will not start with you turning the key in the ignition but if you jump the starter it will start and I'm not getting power at the purple wire from the ignition switch.

Im not for sure if these cars have a starter Solenoid, but in a friends truck his wouldn't start but I was using a volt meter and we bypassed the solenoid and it would start. If ur car has em I would try that. Their pretty cheap

Also question: does the engine turn off when u turn the key off?
2: when u turn the key all the way to the start position do ur interior electronics turn off like normal then back on when u let off the start position

Yes when starter jumped and engine running you can turn the engine off fine and when trying to start it with the key the inside light will go out like you starting it but its no power coming from the purple wire from ignition.

This would be where I would start at. Cheap and easy to replace

    http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...=starter+relay

Then if that doesn't fix it I would say ur ignition switch is bad. But try that first I've seen a couple in friends cars go bad...but its not very common
