So, I cant post in the "for sale" section yet I believe, but I had an idea today.
I was looking at sunroof visors for my car and thought to myself about making a carbon fiber one by using an original one as a mold.
If I make a mold, i'd be able to make many more, even in different materials (carbon fiber, kevlar, fiber glass).
Would there be an interest for me to make more and sell them to anyone here?
As for my credibility, I work for an aerospace composites company and have been working on aircraft composites for the past ten years.
That being said, I could easily make other parts as well if the interest was there. I'm currently taking some spare time to plan out carbon fiber rocker panels.

Someone with an idea that might get it done. I like you.
As far as making yourself a buck, I'd be willing to bet a fair bit of the 04+ crowd would go nuts for some cf roof rails.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

If you were more well known I would offer mine to help get you started with a mold.

Yeah, its understandable with me being new and all. I'm heading to a junk yard today to find a few things and i'm also gonna look for one.
As for what I need to do this (or anything) I just the need the part itself, in the best condition possible. We use an adhesive sheet of teflon material and wrap it in the part we wish to mold, then proceed to lay up a mold from there, usually out of fiber glass or whatever is available for tooling.
After the mold sits and cures, we demold the original and remove the adhesive teflon and the original part remains completely unscathed.
Afterward, the mold goes in for a heated cure cycle and voila! A production ready composite mold! The mold can yield 1000+ parts before warping or disfigurement occurs.
This knowledge is the only reason why i'd even attempt composite rocker panels because some of the things i've replicated and built at work are pretty wild.

I guess the question to be asked now is how much would it cost

I'll contemplate that after I successfully make the first one. I was thinking about selling them without a finish (clear coat/paint) and leaving it up to the installer to fasten it to the roof (adhesive, rivets, screws, etc...).

That's a bridge to cross when you get there, if ever, and really, really unlikely. Until he's raking in a couple hundred thousand, nobody'd bother.
