I am changing the fuel filter on a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl and I can't get to the quick release due to a hard plastic cover, Ihave never seen this before what kind of tool do I need ? The quick release wrench doesn't work for it.

    Anyone familiar with this ?

flat blade screw driver should work jus fine all you got to do is pop both tabs in on the quick release and it should just pull right out

    and welcome to the forum

Gas bath? You did take the gas cap off first to relive the pressure right? and welcome

taking the cap off does nothing to relieve the pressure in the lines you have to depress the schradder valve or run the can with the fuel pump fuse out.

Just make sure the intake manifold gasket has been changed on it.

Do you think that might be part of the problem; not just the filter ?

What problems are you having? A bad intake gasket will mix the oil into the antifreeze and the antifreeze into the oil, or if you lucky it'll just spew out the sides. It's a pita to do compared to a 3800.

I think I have a leak some where because the coolant lite keeps coming on but the coolant reserve tank is only a little low. This happens every one to two weeks. It's still missing a little after changing the plugs and wires which the old plug wires were melted on and a little difficult to get off. Ihaven't changed the trani fluid and filter yet that might help with the lurching and slow shift. I should probably invest in a code reader or some thing like that instead of stinking to the old fashioned way of probability and common sense.

If your ga is like my wife's was it has a non serviceable trans and it doesn't have a dipstick to check your fluid so you'll have to see how much comes out and put that much back in. My wife's coolant light came on both times the intake leaked.
