hi.
Well I wouldnt say they overheat, but the for some reason the 04+ cars like to run alot hotter than the previous years. I am not sure if the size of the coolers were made smaller or weather the sensors on the newer models like to read weird.
From what I hear the 04+ cars run around 220-230 temp after completely warmed up. Which isnt that hot, but that temp should be right around 200º for perfect temp and fluid life. Because the coolers on the rad it should be right at what the coolant is running. I havent heard of a transmission failing yet because of how warm they run, but just know at 225º or higher the fluid life is cut down a ton to maybe even half its normal life.
Welcome to it bro.
Double check everything after installing it. In fact, put cardboard under the car for a few days after you install the external cooler to make sure there's no leaks.
Aluminum block draws more heat from the combustion chamber.
Transfers more heat to the transmission.
the V8 engine puts more heat into the transmission than the V6.
I wouldn't do anything, you will cause more problems messing with it. Look up tripledgeperformance for common tranny problems. None of them are overheating.
Who told you the tranny overheats.
tranny does run hot. an aftermarket cooler is a great start. doug thorly headers are available for a pretty penny. not many intake choices out there. there are alot of ls2, ls6 parts that swap over with little modification. triple edge performance does good trans builds, cartuning makes a turbo kit for our cars that makes rougly 500 hp. one of the cheapest things you can do right out of the box is wrap the crossover pipe with heat wrap. reduces the underhood temps quite bit.
mine ran between 195-210 in the interstate at 75 and around 220 in town. thats why ive put in a trans cooler. brought the temps down to around 170 everywhere.
