ok so i have just bought a 98 gtp with a performance computer in it and ii need to take it out and return it to stock before i insure it. ( IM A HIGH RISK DRIVER AND THE INSURENCE AGENT HAS TO COME OUT TO LOOK AT CAR TO MAKE SURE NO AFTERMARKET PARTS DUE TO PRIOR CARS HAVING MODZ )

if i take out the performance computer and replace the stock one will the car still start normal and run normal with out having to reflash computer?

The stock PCM and tuned PCM look the same. There should be no issue whatsoever.

    Edit:

They are the same, they just have different programming in them. The only way they'll know if it's a "performance" computer is if they have a tuner to check it and I seriously doubt any insurance company is going to have equipment like that...

^ What he said. There would be no way by LOOKING at the PCM to know it's an aftermarket/performance PCM. Performance PCMs ARE stock PCMs that have been reflashed with the performance tables. That's why you have to send in your stock PCM as a core to the company you buy your performance PCM from.

All they will most likely look for is a cold air intake, headers, a turbo or supercharger added to an otherwise n/a car, etc. I very highly doubt they're going to get someone knowledgeable enough to plug in a lap top, and have a way to realize the tables have been modified from stock.

CURRENT: '00 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (ugh...boring regular one)
