Sounds like you have a weak battery, what is making you think its your ignition switch?

I would take your battery down to your autoparts store and have it tested and recharged. Even though your jumping it and letting it run, your alternator may not have sufficient time to recharge your battery. Lets avoid spending 100+ on a part that may not fix the problem (been their done that).

Also what makes you think its the switch?

yeah it does sound like a dead battery or alternator, all the reading ive done here, an ignition switch never started working again by being jump started.

did the key get stuck in the ignition after you tried to start it? like it wont turn back all the way to come out? if so its a dead battery.

Well from every other site I have read on a battery dieing like that is a ignition switch but deffinatly not a gear head I haven't had the battery tested yet but will do soon the key comes out fine and rotates all the way over it does the same thing I have seen a lot of people deal with where the key gets locked and you have to push the button under the steering column to release it but has done that for years now

when you jump start it, is the whole car dead? no horn or windows working? if the whole cars dead, check out the batt and the alt.

out of all the different ways to test a battery and/or an alternator, the one i think is best is the kind that you clip onto the battery, and it reads the volts, that test where the battery is, then you start the car and re read the tester, and that reading is the alt voltage. if its charging at 13 or to 14 is good, any lower than a 12.7 and its toast.

every time i remove the alt and take it to be tested, they are wrong, brand new tested good 2 times, and it was bad, a good one i had tested bad, autozone sucks a big one and pep boys aint to far behind.
