Hello, been lurking for a couple days, decided to join where all the Grand Prix guru's hang out.
Just about to buy a 99 GT for real cheap, cause 2 owners ago someone dropped a 3.8 supercharged GTP motor in place of the naturally aspirated 3.8. The guy that owns it now had no clue until I pointed it out, he has been trying to get it inspected for a year. I know there is also a difference in the transaxle but I'm not too worried about the differential just yet 'cause I'm more concerned with the emmisions dilema right now. The car is rock solid with lots of new parts and seems to run great but with three monitors on- egr, cat and 02 the scan tool shows not ready. I don't know if the computer has been worked on or not. How do I find out? I am a mechanic on medium duty trucks and buses so I am familiar with much of the technology used today. As far as I have discovered, the difference in the wiring harness from the original GT to the GTP is the ABS connector, the MAP sensor connector and the lack of a "boost by-pass"....is this a sensor too? Does this sound right? I don't believe the harness has been changed. At least there seems to be no evidence of a hack job.
Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.
I am supposed to be picking the car up next week. I could still back out. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me .

Welcome...I also have been trying to get my car inspected for close to a year. My EGR and Catalyst are not ready. I only need to get the catalyst ready for inspection. My EGR is deleted so that will never be ready. I had to replace an alternator a few months before the inspection date, so it reset the computer. The dealership told me it could take up to 2000 miles before it shows ready. I maybe put 2000 miles a year on it. Ive passed 5 times before, so my question is: How long ago was this PCM reset? It may just need to be drive cycled until it picks them up.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

    Thanks for the welcome.

Wow, 2000 miles? These cars seem to be much more moody than I'm used to. I guess my next step is to register it and drive it. I did get the car home. It runs well and shifts well. I did erase a tcc code and reset 5 monitors, now they're all blinking. Time for plates I guess. I looked at the PCM and it has part number and after that REMFG so I can only assume its remanufactured. If I was to look for another pcm would a GT pcm work or would I have to get one from a GTP?, I don't know.
