I just got a 97 grand prix gt. No offense but this car is a piece of garbage, but i only payed 500 for it and it's turning into an endless project. I really like these cars though. I'm hoping you guys can help me get this thing on the road and in the process i'll lend you my transmission knowledge since I rebuild these units on a regular basis.

Welcome to the community. Post up what problems you are having in the appropriate section and I think you'll find several people stepping up to the plate to try and help you out.

$500 for a 97 GT. Thats a heck of a deal and I think even if you had put a thousand or two into it you'd probably still come out on the good end. But we will try and help out in every way that we can.

Like i have always been told you get what you paid for $500 is a good deal you may have to dump a little more into it but if you do dumb about $1000 think about it you just paid $1500 for a 97 gt which is still a steal.... i paid $4500 for my GTP with 150xxx

Well so far i've got 400 into the fuel pump. I can't believe these fuel pumps were so pricey( the junk yards wanted 280 for one so I said screw it i'll just buy a dealer unit. 500 into the trans. Trans still doesn't work right, they sold me the wrong wiring harness, but I don't even want to get into that, because I may just blow the car up thinking about it. Started it and yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coolant leaks cracked manifolds plugged cat (at least I hope) I know I took a chance on this car and I knew it had a bad fuel pump and trans when I bought it, but I didn't expect someone that actually owned one of these cars to totally neglect it as bad as this one was. I guess that just goes to show you appearence means nothing!

I hear ya on the neglect. my 97 GT sounds sligtly better off than yours...

but never the less they are good cars, and very reliable.

400 for a fuel pump? yikes!!!!! get in touch with Ed Morad. he constantly parts these out and has an abundance of spare slightly used parts with a warranty!!!!! he has helped me out of a jam quite a few times!!!!!

but let us know what other problems you are having and we are more than glad to hekp out!! these cars are VERY easy to work on. Scotty pulled out his diff!!!! now if thats not a statement I dont know what is.....

Like they have said above, the most valuable advice that you can get from anyone here is:

If you need a part, call Ed Morad!!!

I had a 97 Bright Red GT a few years ago. I sold it to a guy in Missouri. I miss that car sometimes. $500 is a steal. I sold mine for $2600. I had replaced the motor in it before I sold it so the guy got a whole new warrantied motor but the car had other problems and I had to cure my "P" envy

wowsers. a bit of work ahead of you, but as others have said, for quality used parts, Ed Morad is the man! (morad parts company on ebay) or gtped@msn.com

shoot depending on where you are from him, you could likey get a very very good deal on a whole drop out motor/trans and be good to go, man

sell the parts you took out (that are OK) and you'll make back some of your investment.

I know I paid dearly for my fuel pump, but I trust my parts guy and the closet price on a used one was 280. I'll defiently call the guy you recomendend next time. I've kinda taught myself the lesson though that if you are going to do something right you can't take a chance on used parts even if it saves you money unless..... you know those parts inside out, which I do with transmission parts, but not fuel pumps so I paid the price.

i cant say for sure, but from what i've seen in the past ed usually has the fuel pump assembly for $65 for the gt or GTP, but like you said, you needed it and there wasnt that much difference in what you could get used vs new.

Welcome to GPF!! If it was my GP I'd take it as a $500 chassis and replace the whole drivetrain. As stated, Ed Morad (Morad Parts Company) for all your used parts needs. For new you could try Rock Auto, etc. (over $100 cheaper new). Good luck on getting your GP to the level you want, good platform.
