Thanks, this is going to be a big learning curve for me.

Funny thing is the Cutlass and the GTP both came from the same owner down in TN. I bought the 87 off him (he was the original owner of that as well) and liked how well he took care of it for 20 years, that when he decided to sell the GTP, I jumped on it, took a train down to Memphis and bought it, drove it home. Best drive of my life.

He is meticulous on taking care of his cars. So how could I go wrong.

Only ever worked on N/A engines, like my Cutlass. Never had to work with the computer in a car. lol Should prove to be interesting.

I am a Network engineer, so the computer stuff shouldnt be too hard. Just have to learn where to start. I am reading just about everything on this site, and have gotten a lot of good info so far.

I plan on starting slowly, just a few small mods, nothing crazy, and see where it goes. Leaving it stock looking though. No fancy body kits or anything like that here. Stock looking but fast is how I like it.
If all else fails, throw money at it..... that'll fix it.

    Nice Cutlass!

Tuners are a bit expensive, HP Tuners are $500 which allows you to hook up a laptop and change everything in the pcm and scan your car. $100 gets you a pcm with a base map for minor mods.

Stock trannies should be good to low to mid 13's depending on how much you beat it, some have gone low 12's on stock tranny but not for long.

A cold air intake, depending on where you get it, will cost you upwards of $100, some say wizair is best... or you can make it yourself, shown in the how to section here.

Exhaust modifications would be to get rid of that u-bend as it is the most restrictive, if you plan on going with a 3.4" s/c pulley, headers or downpipe and front ported exhaust manifold is needed. P.E.M.'s can be found for around $100, downpipes from $100 to $300?, Headers $350++.

A colder 180 t-stat, right plugs - Autolite 104's are popular and the stuff listed above should let you put on a 3.4" s/c pulley on your car and run safely.

After that, it's definitely headers, rockers/cam, intercooler, s/c porting, tb porting, but if you want to keep it close to stock I would just do some porting and rockers... Then your in the mid to high 13's depending on the pcm/tune.
