Welcome. Should be interesting to watch your build.

im not sure what vin code it is but the best way is to just check the turbo and make sure it says mclaren on it. also there would be obvious signs of the modifications ie: someone cut the quarter panels to put the flares on. im building a conversion or clone whatever you wanna call it. theres a bunch of different mods that have to be done that if you know what to look for are pretty obvious were done outside of the factory.
also my 91 se has a stainless exhaust still looks brand new but its original so thats not how to tell..... also another teller is the hood check the vents for modifications ill look up and see what the vin code is for the actual mclaren but i dont know off hand what it is. i do however know 90 is the last year for the mclaren after that it went to the ste turbo in 91.
edit: usually the best way to tell if its a real mclaren or not is the turbo a factory mclaren turbo is hard to come by so most people that convert use different turbos ie: im using a garret t-3 when convert mine.
hers a youtube vid of my Mclaren TGP.. i have about 4 vids on youtube
YouTube - Grand Prix Turbo 1990
hey thanks for the heads up,, But i pretty much been all over this car and there are no signs of it not being a Mclaren has the turbo for sure, you can check out my video's i think i have here on w-body or look on youtube under mrpopeye337 i have about 4 or 5 video's of my car there, good luck on building your 91 keep us posted on the progress![]()
i checked the vin code it is the v for the engine code so you do have a mclaren for sure because the standard n/a 3.1 is the t code.
also the actual work on my car wont be happening till spring when its warm out lol. but i will be updating as it goes ill probably start a thread going through the whole build. im building it in intervals starting with the top end then moving to the trans then finally the turbo. then finally after that body work then paint.
