Gentlemen (and Ladies, if you're here)
I figured I might as well introduce myself. I'm new to this forum, though not new to the GP that I own, nor to the car hobby in general. My main driver is the 2005 GTP in the signature picture below, on which I've put very many good miles. The car had gotten to the point where it was needing a rebuild (240,000 miles) so I had started looking into this and other forums for background on this particular version of the 231, and what to expect. I liked the forum here, so I decided to make an account and stay a while.
I'm the second owner of the car and have the car's history going way back. My good friend and I recently did a rebuild of much of the engine and front end. Prior, he had redone the transmission for me (he's a professional mechanic and a transmission specialist). I drive quite a lot for work, and had originally gotten the car with the idea of simply burning it out on the highway and junking it, but I got to liking it enough to decide to rebuild it when the need came. It's now a rather nice original version of a supercharged Grand Prix, and is mostly stock, save for a ZZP downpipe, suspension upgrades and a few other very minor upgrades.
I have a long history with the Buick 231, going back to a 1964 version that I built for a Chevy Monza 1/8 mile drag car (it was a 225 back then). I think this is probably the fifth Buick 6 I've owned, but the first that's newer than the mid-80's, non-balance shaft motors with the traditional BOP bellhousing. I also have a lot of history with small block Chevys, and I'd compare this motor to the Vortec that's in my truck, and how the engines are long, slow evolutionary upgrades of a fundamentally very good piece of automotive engineering.
Anyway, you might see me around the forum here every now and then, so "Hi" everyone, and enjoy wrenching on your old Pontiacs.
