Thread: Temp problem

1995 3.1 aux fan not comming on.temp reached 250. ok on highway about 190.has anybody seen same and what did you do. Thanks

I've had similar problems in several vehicles. In my old 1500 the previous owner had filled the radiator with stop leak, which caked up the t-stat and stopped the coolant. Pulled the t-stat and she was good to go. I eventually replaced the radiator and performed a full flush before dropping a new thermostat in, otherwise it would just clog again. Check your radiator hoses. They both should be warm/hot. If one is MUCH cooler than the other, that is an indicator of a clog.

If you have having temps rise that high and fast when you aren't moving you have a coolant flow problem or similar. Perhaps the thermostat isn't working correctly or maybe even the water pump fins aren't pushing coolant quick enough. The other possible thing is the radiator is partly plugged and can't let coolant move.

Thanks for the reply. After research i found out that the 3100 run hot 190 to 230 this was a design for emsions. The aux fan dosnt come on till ac is in use or temp gets critical.
