Hey there folks, I wanted to say hi before I posted my question so hi from Columbus, Ohio! I have a 1998 GTP mostly stock other than headers, 3.2 pulley, and borla exhaust. I have owned it for about 5 years, and she is a headache in so many areas, but too fun to drive to get rid of. I am sure most of you have been in the same boat.....lol. Anyway, I am going to go to the appropriate forum for my question. Thanks for any help you guys can give and I will help whenever I can. Later!

just how chipped up are your pistons? no tune? a 3.2 with just headers? thats not a good combo at all.

any who welcome to the site, search for the safely modding your car thread, read it twice. then adjust your mods, get a way to scan it, and a tune if you dont have one.

i agree. not a good combo since you got an upgraded exhaust and 3.2 with just headers, right? others parts will not run well with it. anyway, you may want to check out http://www.grandprixforums.net/forums/105-Members-Rides to get some mod ideas

I'm pretty sure after 5 years if it hasn't blown, it's not going to any time soon. He might just have one of those lucky engines...

Oops.....sorry. I was making my intro post in a hurry because of the damned brake line problem. I also have NGK plugs, Aftermarket wires, I forget what brand off hand, I bought them at O'reilly and they are high temp wires with a lifetime warranty as I recall. They said something about Nascar. Also has ram air indiuction system, which I am thinking about switching it to cold-air induction. I just am not sure of the pros and cons when they are compared. Also have a 180 degree thermostat. As for the exhaust, it is Borla from the headers back, I believe. Question though about the tune. I was told by a guy at intense that a new tune was not necessary until the pulley was <3.2. I assume that is inaccurate? I bought this car from a friend of mine so am not sure if anything else has been done, he doesn't think there is anything else he has done. I am completely unfamiliar with what/how to tune. Any good references? Also, can it be done with a laptop and autotap? Or do I need to take it to a shop/order a tuned pcm?

If it has stock cast steel exhaust manifolds I would suggest you stay far out of the throttle just incase.

To me anything with a 3.4-3.5 pulley or smaller requires a tune to prevent engine damage. The other changes done to your vehicle do not even help at all to prevent spark knock and in the worst case a chipped or exploded piston.

I've seen some motor take a beating without proper exhaust flow and a tune but it can only last so long before it bites the dust.

At a guess I bet you are seeing some silly boost numbers like 12-13+ and some knock that would make us shake our head. I would buy a stock 3.8 pulley and install as soon as you can. If it already has a MPS hub, it's just a simple swap and go and maybe a longer belt.
