Thread: 99 authentic pace car

like a real one documented having been a real pace car? or one of the few thousand pace cars that rolled of the line?

a real one with history to it, like dale sr hit it, ever seen that car? those to the right person will be worth some coin.


run of the mill pace cars not much more then the bbv of a normal gtp. unless you find that "guy" who thinks its so ultra rare and wants it ohhh so bad lol

Well, from I've researched, there was no 1999 pace car, there was a 1998 Daytona 500 which was a Medium Gulf Blue and a 2000 Daytona 500 which was silver with a multi-colored checkered flag down the side. Does your car fit either of those two descriptions? If not we will need pictures of the car to figure out what it is and what it's worth.

I saw one for sale like that on CL awhile back. It was apparently a Winston Cup car? Anyway, it was the real deal and had Dale Jr. hit it. Long story short they wanted $40000 for it...

I'm guessing the kind of GP pace car you're talking about is slathered all over in checkered flags and light bars.

Oh nvm I see you've just posted a photo. And are you positive that's a 99'? Thought that blue was only on the 98' GP's.

It was from the 1999 Pocono 500 he won it thru the Pennsylvania lottery. The car was used during the race at the end they changed back to street tire and signed the car over to him. As for the color it is a medium blue with silver and red graphics.
He even got a matching leather jacket from the race .

Nope, They did that blue on the replica cars for '98, which still didn't look at all like the actual pace cars... In '99 they were only produced as actual pace cars. That car is worth quite a bit more than any replica car produced. We are talking like 3, maybe 5 ever made, rather than well over a thousand... For only having 20k miles on it, I would put it in the ballpark of 20k, especially if ALL of the documentation is present. An auto museum would LOVE one of these... lol just a thought.

Or you can try to hold onto it, it's really clean from the looks of it and selling locally might not net you what the car is actually worth. Anyone that will pay 20k for it, you know will take care of it.

Just because it's blue doesn't mean it's not real. There were things on the real pace cars before they were on production cars. I 100% believe it's authentic. Nice car you got there!

does it still have the strobes? looks like they were removed probably to make it street legal. i think a lot of value is gone without those.

Wow the W body sure made a nice looking NASCAR though.

Needs roof rails, lol. I would be extremely pleased to get 10-11 grand for it. A collector only buys things that are not only rare but that are a steal. For 5500-6000 you might get bites from them. If somebody runs into the thing and totals it... the Pace Car option will mean nothing, you get paid by the book on a 20K mile GP.

Insurance aside, it is one of a literal few. I based my guess off of other authentic pace GPs and what they had on the clock.

But if I was in your shoes, I would keep hold of it for a while. It does have 1/10th of the miles on it that most GPs have now, and these cars are really easy to fall in love with for some stupid reason. lol

Somebody might pay 20K. If the OP needs to turn it into cash, I'd keep the asking price under 8 grand and be flexible. Just one opinion. For maximum street credibility, peel the stickers and drive it in snow. Should provide a good many years' transportation after the usual fixes.

I would honestly keep the stickers. Plenty of car shows would give you a free spot right in the middle just to have a piece of racing history there. Albeit a small piece.

So OP, now that you have multiple opinions, what are you going to do with it? You have peaked the interest of quite a few people on here...

Didn't those cars have strobes in the wing mirrors, in the rear windscreen and in the sun visors?

Pocono Speedway had the strobes under the spoiler and in the grille, not mounted on top. Each raceway has different standards for strobes on pace cars. And since it wouldn't be street legal with track slicks and flashing strobes, they probably removed them when they changed the tires so it would be a street legal car when they offered it in the lottery. Leaving holes in the body of a car is generally bad practice when you offer a brand new car to someone.
