Hello guys, once again I am new to this! So go easy on me.
But anyway, i own an 03 GTP, I am looking to sell it and buy an 05. I like the newer body style.
I heard that the newer engine is shi* compared to the 97-03. And the transmission on the 04-07 go out easy.
Could someone clarify on that? Is the 05 actually worse than the 03? If so, what's the difference?

PS, I am going to mod the 05 if all is well.

The motor is exactly the same, different supercharger is mainly the only difference and it has drive by wire throttle control.

The block is same from both body styles. Transmissions are same aswell. Different internal parts and controls for 2003+ vehicles but all still suffer from the same weak points. 04+ tend to want a tranny cooler though.

You have alot of reading ahead of you that's for sure, not saying that to be harsh or anything but it's just the truth when you wish to get into modding.

As an 05 owner I have never heard this and think this could only come from Facebook. The transmission isn't any weaker than any of the other 4t65E-HD's out there and the engine is strong as any of the other engines.

my brother actually told me this, as I don't know much about them. He's obviously leading me into the wrong direction.
Thank you everyone for your help!!

Anyone who told you that is just another internet moron spouting garbage based on no information. If anything the 04+'s are better in many ways as GM finally started fixing some of the common issues.

Let me put it to you this way, just because someone has a problem, doesn't mean everyone has a problem. I have had people tell me AWD sucks in the snow, because they had a AWD DSM and it slid sideways into a ditch and they couldn't go anywhere. Once asked what kind of tires they had, you got your answer as to why THEIR car sucked in the snow. Because they were AWD they thought running summer only high performance tires would still get them around in snow and ice.

I think the only down side to the newer cars is the returnless fuel system, if you're planning a big build. For what that's worth.
