And asking me to talk about my car is just asking for trouble.
I wanted to find out more about the struts on it so I went to a GM dealer and had them look up the VIN. The guy looks at me and says "That's interesting". I got worried. He said my car has all of the options that came with the '05 Comp G's. HUD, TapShift, advanced stability control yada yada yada. Cool. I'm still trying to confirm all that though. The previous owner put a manifold back ZZP stainless exhaust with the high flow cat, upgraded ignition coils and wires, a 3.4" ZZP quick change pulley, led tail light assemblies, not just bulbs, cai and an aftermarket stereo with 2 10" subs on a 1000 watt amp. The nav fried on the stereo and since I hated the piece of crap Kenwood he put in, I swapped in an AVH 4100NEX head unit and replaced the stock speakers with some middle of the road Focal speaker, no amp yet for the head unit.
The car has heated leather seats, climate control, all the creature comforts. The headlights and driving/marker lights were in bad shape so I replaced them and since I really hate HID's I put in led's. I've been swapping out all the incandescent bulbs with led's just because I can. And of course it's black on black on black on black. It's my first black vehicle. I'm probably going to go bankrupt trying to keep it clean. Oh yeah, it also has 20" rims and low profile tires. Damned if that's all I can think of right now.
ZZP doesn't make a manifold back exhaust kit. They do make headers, and catback exhaust systems, but their headers are like 700 for the set, so I would be curious if that is what they actually are. I would get rid of those 20's. They are heavy and make your car slow. even the OEM GXP 18's would be better, but if it was me, I would try to find a set of the Comp G 17's.
The most paramount thing you could do is take that 3.4" pulley off and put a 3.8" on unless you want to chip a piston. Putting a supercharger pulley on that is too small will create too much pressure inside the engine and then the piston will chip.
the "manifold back" is a common term for a DP/exhaust, where "cat-back" is just the exhaust without the DP
****ing cannuckians
ppost a pic of yer GF's tits or GTFO
I just know what the young guy told me about the exhaust. I've crawled under and it is stainless from the stock manifolds back and it does have what looks like a high flow aftermarket cat. As to the make, who knows? He said it was ZZP. The pulley was worrying me. That's why I joined, because I was looking for info. The pulley has "ZZP 3.4" stamped in it. If the stock boost gauge is any help, it's not boosting that much. I'm in the process of installing aftermarket gauges, boost, oil pressure and trans temp. I did myself an injury and have to delay that for a while. More accurate boost numbers will let me know for sure. It is a quick change pulley so that's easy to fix. The rims are actually a tiny bit lighter than the stock rims. A co-worker told me the same thing you said so when I changed out my stock rims and winter tires I threw them on a scale. Looks like 3-4 oz lighter according to the cheap a** scale at work.
Thanks for the advice btw. I'm more of an old school kind of rodder but I sure do like this gp. Years ago I had a '76 Grand Prix, LJ I think. It was a fantastic car.
ive rarely seen a 20+" rim that was lighter than an OEM 16/17" (well i did but most people dont pay nearly 1500$ for a single rim)
hell i rarely see an 18" thats lighter than a 17"
I would get a 3.8" pulley on there asap. if you understand how a supercharger works, you will understand that what goes in must come out, and if it doesn't come out fast enough, damage is going to be done. hopefully it isn't too late. You can get a new 3.8 from zzp for about 60 dollars plus shipping. I don't think knowing how much boost you have is that important, instead you should be looking at how much KR or predetonation there is.
Does it have a sunroof? Just curious, CompGs had everything, but in '05 when they discontinued them there were some weird ones (not badged as CompGs) made afterward that had all the CompG options except 3.29 gears, and if your's is one of those but without a sunroof...., that'd be really weird, lol.
Anyhow, welcome!
If I remember my research correctly from ClubGP (I think), they could have everything except 3.29s... Wasn't the CompG and GXP trans the same? I actually saw one of these weird '05s on Craigslist a couple months back that had everything (TapShift too), but it wasn't a CompG. There's a digit in the VIN that can tell you if you have 3.29s too.

Comp G trans had 3.29s, GXP had 2.93s. I never understood why, except maybe for longevity purposes, but that's out the window with the GXP anyway. Other than the gearing, they're the same. The Comp G was the only 04+ GP that came stock with 3.29s, which is why I figured some of these might have them - once the Comp G was discontinued, they didn't have another vehicle for those leftover transmissions to go into. They still made the GXP for 3 more years, they didn't have to get rid of any leftovers
Ohhhhh, for some reason I always thought GXPs had 3.29s....
