So I have owned my SE for a little over a year now. I paid 2000 dollars and I definitely over paid. I have spent about 3000 or so more on it since then and it still has it's fair share of issues. I do really like the car though. I am far from a "car guy" but I am learning. The most recent fix was just today. I had to replace the the rear drivers side window motor and regulator. Easy job and only cost me 50 bucks. Made me wish I didn't drive around for months with my window falling every time I hit a bump.

Since I do really like the car I figure I will just keep chipping away at it. My fiancee wants me to buy a new one, but I am fighting the good fight for as long as I can. My top priorities which I should be able to do before years end are replacing the fuel sensor as it no longer works. I have purchased it already. Is this hard to do? The passenger seat floor boards seem to leak when it rains. I did spot a missing bolt by the windshield cowl that could be the culprit. The front and rear bumpers are both pretty cracked. Hoping to find some in good condition at the junkyard. If not, they're not too expensive to order new online.

Some other small projects are as follows. I would like to find some better seats for the car. The previous owner(s) didn't take the best care of them. Not terrible, but a cigarette burn or two. I can no longer spray windshield washer fluid. Not sure what the problem is here. My Keyfob is broken so I never take advantage of the remote start. It works but the plastic that allows it to go on my key ring is broken. Are these easily replaced? The check engine light recently came on so I hope that's nothing major. My key sometimes won't come out of the ignition. This is super annoying.

I have been reading these forums quite a bit and figured there's nothing I need to do that hasn't been done before. Anyone who has any thoughts or experiences that they can share would be greatly appreciated. I can post pictures if anyone is interested.

Fuel level sensor is easy, just take it slow. You'd prefer to do it on a low tank for sure, so you don't spill fuel all over the inside of the trunk.

Youtube bonneville fuel level sensor replacement, guy does show how it's done. Video is kinda dated though, don't mind the banter and prices and yadda yadda.

You can search this forum or use a google seach with this forums name for the "water on the floor boards fix". The dealership sells the part you can buy to more than likely fix the issue. Part is under 20 bucks I think.

Thanks. I will try to do the sensor next weekend. This weekend is Jessica Jones! I've never ran out of gas, but I always worry when I start to push it. I have just been refilling every 250 miles.

I just found the thread and ordered the part. Only 7 bucks on Amazon. Thanks!

So my check engine light wasn't on when I drove to work today, but came on when I drove home. I noticed it was running a little hotter than normal. Any ideas?

Check your coolant. If it's all sludgey and brown looking, replace it. Also check your oil. If your oil looks creamy and looks like a milkshake, you are in some trouble. You would need to flush the oil system and replace your intake manifold gaskets. Otherwise the overheating could be a bad thermostat. Also check and see if there is debris on front of your radiator.

I just checked the oil and it is nice and clear. I did just get an oil change last week though. It's dark and I just got home so I can't check the coolant until tomorrow. I am gonna work from home tomorrow so I can do it then. I will take it to get checked this weekend as well.

Oil looks good. How many miles on your car? I'm guessing your coolant has turned bad.

Just under 130. I haven't touched it since I bought it about a year ago. Is replacing it as simple as draining it and filling it back up? Sorry for this and many more dumb questions to follow.

No question is dumb. Everyone has to learn at some point, right? But I'd advise you to search for topics before you ask questions. It will save everyones time and will not upset people. I used to not search and got pounded on lol.

As far as flushing the coolant, Scotty has a nice write-up for that. Use green coolant when your done though. Ditch the DEX-COOL.

This is Scotty's method, not mine. I do not own these directions, do not sue me lol.

    how to flush coolant.

remove the t stat, put the t stat housing back on, take the upper hoseoff the radiator, then push it down to the ground to a bucket or let it fly.

get your garden hoseout, put it in the rad turn it on, then fire up the car, let it run till clear water pumpsout the top hose.

then turn the hose off, run the car till no more water comes out the upper hose. then turn it off.

put your t stat back in, with new gasket, the upper hoseback on.

now take 1 gallon of full strength green antifreeze, not the 50/50 crap. ( parts store cheap green is fine to use) dump the whole gallon in the radiator, fire up the car, fill the rad with hose water till its full. top as needed till its ready to be bled of air. it will burp and take coolant as the water in the block warms up the t stat opens up for a few seconds till cold coolant hits it and it shuts again.

now to bleed the air out, let it idle rad cap off till the fans turn on, (when the fans are on the temp is over 195 deg, the t stat is wide open) then open the bleeder screwon top the t stat housing a few turns till a steady stream of coolant comes out the hole, shut the screw, top off the rad. cap it.

    done.

Thanks StayFree! I will use the search going forward. I will replace the coolant as I am sure it needs it either way. Hopefully that resolves the issue.

My names Jared . And if you want to really get better search results, don't use the search bar at the top of the home page. Use Google and Google something like "how to flush coolant grandprixforums." You will get better results. Buy a new thermostat as well.
