This is SOO easy and should be a sticky, cause it seems to be a common problem that people hunt for fixes by replacing uneeded parts. What happens is the Fuel Pump Resistor that selects between the pump cycling in low and high speed takes a dump, and here is the quick fix that just fixed my car 5 minutes ago for a problem i couldn't figure out hooked up to a Genesys. It would run about 5 to 10 seconds and just die without hesitation. It started stalling randomly on the road then continued to just get worse. Follow this image i found on another forum to fix your stalling issue.

Could this also be a problem with 04+ cars? Because sometimes when I start mine it just stalls out.

uhm well since i don't own either car or ever worked on one for that matter, no...try it yourself but i do believe that the 2 speed pumps didn't come on anything till the series 2 3800, if you have a fuel pump speed relay then who knows, it might

After looking back on this, I believe this only applies to the 97-03 GTPs (not the GTs) because they have a 2 speed fuel pump. What this does is force the fuel pump into high at all times.

mine does the same thing, drives me nuts, actually almost killed me and wrecked the car cause it stalled pulling out onto the highway... anyways, would i just put a little piece of metal between the resistor to help it function properly or just simply replace the resistor???
and wouldn't this cut down on mpg's if it was permanently set to high??

I am so glad I found this forum! Pittman06 kept me from going crazy. I have been trying to fix my '97 GTP for two weeks. I tried what he said, and it worked. Thanks so much.

I've got a 1997 Grand Prix GTP Supercharge - On a 'cold start' she powers when starting ignition, revs go up as normal, levels down to idle speed but then 'pluffs' out (dies). She used to start after 3 goes but it's getting tougher to get her to fire without giving her gas to warm her up. What might be the prob? I hear that it can't be a choke as she has no carb...fuel injected...but wont there be a butterfly in there for air/fuel flow? Could it be the ECM sensor? Just want to have an idea, as a female, before taking her into a mechanic and maybe getting swindled...lol Thanks for any help! She runs fine on the road and has never 'stalled' out...ONLY when cold starting in the mornings. After sitting all day at work (9hrs) she is ok... Assistance GREATLY appreciated!

Fuel filter may be the problem, also. It is an easy fix.
