WOW...THANKS!!!
Just bought a 98 GTP from my buddy and seen the puddles on his floor. He said it pretty much always did it. The vehicle has a obnoxious system so he thought it was the windshield. I looked and saw no evidence of a leaky windshield so I went online and came across this post.
Bought my 4.25 part, and installed it in minutes...I mean seconds. Ok minutes, damn winshield wipers were hell to get off, but i got em after some heavy prying.
Hasn't rained yet, but the install went so flawless (thanks for the great original write up) that I feel I will never have a puddle problem again!

Should last about as long as the original GM rubber strip stays on. I hope it lasts longer though, but I doubt it.

Yu couldn't be more wrong.:confused: It'll last the life of the car, unless physically damaged by some out side source. It's a hundred times better than the rubber strip. Have yu read this complete post???

It's no better than GMs design. But I looks like it is. Metal clip held up a piece of rubber that might weigh a couple ounces and it failed. See those 3 little ears? Thats all that holds it up. I bet it weighs weigh more than the rubber seal before any build up of material gets in it. Plastic gets brittle after weather takes its toll and those little ears hold the weight of that tray plus build up. After dirt and silt builds up in it, maybe some ice in the winter, the tray is going to get a bit heavier. Tray gets heavier, ears get brittle. Snap. Let me know in a few years if it's still in place. Of course, unless you feel like taking apart your cowl every summer to clean it out. If those ears were replaced by 2, solid 3" or so tracks. It would be trustworthy for a lot longer, but.......it would probably cost $3.00 more. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Like I said, I honestly hope it lasts, but doubt it will. For now, I will stick with the one that WILL last for 10+ years for sure. Just trying to save you money and hassle. I have experience with this issue. Probably 100+ cars in the last 7 years. Only a handful or so came back to me and still had the "water in the floorboard". Always turned out to be something else too.

Good Grief!! That would be funny, if it wasn't so ludicrous. The only way yu'll ever get that much weight on the piece, is to dump it on there from a front end loader, or, set under a tree for 30 years(maybe). Are yu grasping at straws??? And, the only time I've taken apart my cowl to clean it was when I put this part in, an, there was no way near enough debris to ever put a strain on this piece. Yu don't work for the Climate Change people, do yu??:th_laugh-lol2:

Better off getting it at local dealer, it was only about $4 from mine and they had it within 2 days. Shipping was free. It's more expensive with shipping.

this shows up as a part for 2006-2007 monte carlo... I'm surprised it actually works. I'm going to hit up a dealer for one since gmpartsdirect.com wanted $15 to ship!

It wasn't a 100% direct fit in ours for some reason, but since it's plastic I got it to work. It was also 20 degrees out when I installed it so maybe I was also rushing to get the damn thing installed. Too bad someone didn't fix this problem earlier as I just replaced the blower motor during a blizzard due to obnoxiously loud squealing coming from old one.

gmpartsdirect always charges more for shipping on the first item ordered no matter what the price. I paid three or four dollars at my local dealer.

I DO perform this kind of work for the public, and I usually fix this problem free of charge since it's so easy to fix. And as for your theory about it get so much weight on it that it breaks... I LOL'd! Give me a break, how would anything even build up on it? If your cowl is installed over it correctly, nothing can even get on it except water and maybe a little dirt, but it slants towards the cowl drain washing itself right off every time. If you actually believe that, then your car should fall completely apart at anytime due to all the little plastic clips that hold a majority of it together. The original rubber seal is sooo great, that GM actually saw a need to redesign it later, what a waste *sarcasm*. If you'll notice, I also did a write-up on how to fix this problem without using this new part just for people like you who don't think better is, well... better.

I ordered this part back before Thanksgiving, when my brother was off work & had time to help, but with the holiday, they said it would be a full week before they got it in. After all the holidays, my dad being in the hospital & the cold & snow we got, I finally picked up the part last week. $3.67
We put the part in today. The screws holding the cowl in were rotted out, but we replaced those for 75 cents each. Had a booger of a time trying to get the windshield wipers off. Broke the 1 piece cowl trying to get it out, by the mesh screen on the driver's side. Priced a new one - $119...gonna leave it as is right now. If it were any where else but the screen, I'd worry about it, but it's all still there, just cracked. Will keep my eye out on ebay for a cheaper one.
The actual part went in great.
Tried scoring that piece on the cowl several times & only got half of it off. Took a full 5 minutes on the saws-all to get it all off.
Lost the flat screw-cover that goes back on the passenger side cowl. And took 4 tries to get the windshield wipers back on correctly.
But it's done. Now just waiting for some rain so I can see if it helped, or if I have another problem.
Just had to replace the motors in both passenger side windows (which I swear shorted out because of the leaks...brother argues with me on that). My brother drilled a hole in the back floorboard to let the water drain when he fixed the windows, so at least I haven't had standing water in a while. I gave up driving it for about 6 months...sick of bumming rides though, so I'm ready to get oil changed & fluids topped off so I can see what else is wrong with it!
