The reason you hook it up at the radio and not the xm receiver is because longer wires = voltage drop. The shorter the wire the more volume/cleaner sound you'd get out of it.

it wont matter man, people in vetts do it all the time and your not gonna have any drop with whats runnign through it. the case being is the xm signal is super loud already and its gets compinsated for. i have a line driver for mine to adjust to my likeing, but most will like the sound output. and what your using to playhe music can make a difference also.

If i were to take the deck out to get to the back of the wire harness I would replace it anyways XD.
The cable should be here today, I might try and extend the wires a little on the rca's that way I have room for trial and error, so I dont end up with no wire left.

Cut it where the wife goes into the RCA, that way you'll have the most for trial and error

I'm giving up lol. I cut the rca end off in order to wire it up and there was only a red wire on one side, and a white wire on the other side. there were no negatives . so i'll just wait till i replace the deck...stupid cables...

Seriously though...PayPal me the $25 bucks it'll take for shipping UPS and the parts (ill send you nice high end set of rcas & rca to headphone and barrel connectors...

essentially exactly what you need pre wired up all you have to do is attach the 3 wires at the radio or xm receiver and route the wires to your center console or wherever you want it... It will literally be the exact product and a no brainer to what I'm using.

If you want it I'm located in Michigan. I have a ups station at work. It will ship tomorrow. I'm just trying to help. I'll also include printed photo pictures of each step lol

The shielding is used for outside interface they don't use that for a common ground. A good set of rcas will have the two wires for each and a shield. If that's what you meant.

Can this be done on the 5 disk, non XM, Monsoon radio? I have read a lot of threamd on this. People keep saying you must have a "Band" button. I do. I dont have a XM module on the rear left fender though, etc. Just want an Aux jack and to keep stock radio so I have steering wheel controls.

to get the band to work you need a signal from the xm reciver in the trunk. i havent had to do anything else or any other kind other than mine, i wanted to keep my nav so i wanted a stock jack, you could just get a new deck with input built in.

hey i just wanna throw this out there for any 04 plus grand prix owners. theres a 30 dollar fix for installing a aux input into your cars. If you have xm radio or any slave unit in your car not counting the 6 disc in dash cd changer there is a kit made by pac audio that is 30 bucks on ebay. Its super easy to install and alot more convenient. There is no interference in it like there is in fm modulators or anything. The exact model for it is AAI-GM12.
