This article will describe how to remove the rear deck on a 2004 and newer Grand Prix. This is how you would access the rear speakers, amp, compass, or seat belt assemblies for replacement. If you're a real tricky fella, you may want to try skipping steps 3,4, and 6 to see if you can work that plastic bolt out without removing the seat frame.

    Recommended tools:
    *15mm wrench
    *18mm deep socket
    *10mm socket
    *flat head screwdriver
    *chain-nose pliers
    *yelling

    1. There's two T-shaped handles under each seat where your balls would sit. Pull those. Harder. Your rear seat will pop out. Remove it.
**Pro Tip: You'll find approximately $0.82 and an entire box of crackers. Keep the money, the crackers can be discarded as they are a 30,000 mile part and have been dragging down your 1/4 mile times.

    2. There's a 15mm bolt on the door-side edge of the hinge on both seat panels. You'll have to squeeze it past some cushion. Jiggle your seat panels out.
    3. The bottom of the seat frame is held down with three 18mm nuts and two 18mm bolts. The bolts will require your Man Hand for removal.

    4. Remove the seat belts from the bottom of the frame with some serious jiggling. Might help to use a flat head screwdriver or loud yelling.
    5. The top of the frame is held on by four 10mm bolts. Piece of cake.
    6. Pop out the frame, being careful not to break the plastic portion at the top.
    7. Fold all the seatbelts through the slits in the upper deck so that they lay behind it.
    8. The carpet-coated cardboard deck is held in by two big plastic railroad spikes right under the seatbelt holes you need to pull out. Yell at them, too.

    9. Carefully remove the deck. It may help to push upward on the middle to get it past the pillars. Try not to crack your speaker grills - they're ironically fragile. Also, don't lean on the compass thing in front of your amp.
**Pro Tip: Have a vacuum cleaner handy for the three hundred dead bees you find.

    10. Your speakers are held in by two plastic tabs each. You can figure that out for yourself if you got this far.
    11. Use a flat head screwdriver, roofing nail, or prison shank to un-clip the speaker wires from the speaker.
    12. Swap speakers.
    13. *****TEST SPEAKERS BEFORE RE-ASSEMBLY OF SEATS******
    14. Re-assemble seats.

i cant take pics now.... i have done it lol.....

    i folded the seats down
then i lossened the 4 bolts that are in the center of that plastic brace
then i pulled forward on the two outside peices of seat to get that clip undone... i ended up breaking them but they r uneccessary anyway.
then i just wobble the edges out.... it worked out pretty easy.

I can't thank you enough for posting this tutorial.

I was very iffy as to how I should remove the rear deck, it just won't budge even after I removed the seats. For some reason there is no thick plastic bolt in my car. Still haven't got it out but I'm going to try again tomorrow.

Thats wierd that the inside of your car is white when the outside is that stealth grey metallic or whatever they call it. Mine has the same exterior color and is the same color on the inside.

I was working on a different car. My blue '06 is just a wee base model without the Monsoon system... so the rear speakers will never get blown out and never need replacement
