Wife ended up having to drop the car off at the repair shop. I think he and her had miscommunication on what to do. He thought she wanted him to diagnose it, and I just wanted the codes read. Anyhow, she woke me up this afternoon to go get the car with her. He didn't do anything with it all day, to busy. After I told him just the codes, we went out and scanned it quick. No ABS light on, so it stored the codes(which I post below). He didn't charge me a thing for the 15 minutes of his time we took, that was very nice, better than GM's cost. So it looks like I had a bad EBCM as well as an issue with the front right wheel. I'll have to strip the the plastic shielding of the wires and inspect for broken wires(hope it's that), otherwise I'll go and buy a new wheel bearing and put it on. I don't mind doing rear wheel bearings, but fronts can be a pain, and it's been a while since I did one. I'll update when I hopefully get a chance to work on it this weekend. I still have to finish building my fence gate so the puppy we got can't escape. Thanks for the help guys!

The codes are:

C0245 Wheel Speed Sensor Frequency Error
– The EBTCM cannot identify which speed sensor is faulty

C0040
Right Front Wheel Speed Circuit Malfunction
–
Probable Cause[s]

• Open or short circuit condition
• Poor electrical connection
• Faulty wheel speed sensor
• Faulty EBTCM

C0041 Right Front Wheel Speed Circuit Range/Performance
– The EBTCM has detected a variation in speed between the speed sensors
Probable Cause[s]

• Open or short circuit condition
• Poor electrical connection
• Faulty wheel speed sensor

A place I found to look up ABS codes which matched what Mike @ the repair shop said is; Trouble Code Search

Well wait. Didn't you say that you had it scanned once BEFORE and it said something about the right front?? If that's the case then that is the old codes showing unless he said they are recent. And if the EBCM can't identify which sensor is bad then the EBCM is bad cus it went stupid, essentially lol.

No, I never had it scanned before. So if the EBCM wasn't bad originally, I am only out about $80-100 when you offset the cost of paying for a scan to having mine rebuilt etc. Which Module MAster said on the paperwork that some circuit was burnt out.

Oh, wait. I did try scanning it at O'Reillys(2 weeks ago) with their new scanner that was suppose to do ABS as well.(it said so on the box even). But it didn't connect, said there was no ABS to connect to, or something to that affect. Which I have read can happen if the EBCM module went bad.

Hmm. Well my bets are on that right front hub/wiring then. If ModuleMaster rebuilt that thing, it's good to go. Mine is perfect

I could be reading the link incorrectly but the one you posted for a 97: Is the EBCM under the dash?

honestly, never worked with a 97. but what i would do is use that link. THEN. for more reference. use the GM service manual. try this link, i doubt it works, but try. http://sm.gpona.com:9001/si/home.do

if it doesn't go to GPONA - Grand Prixs of North America if you have a username and password. great. enter it and look at the top and click GM service manual. if not get a username and password and do that. then you can search for the 97 grand prix and look in brakes and after playing around with it you should find EBCM removal/installation. It will contain diagrams and be a little more specific on how to get to it and what needs to be removed etc.

well, it seems like for once, the GTP had mercy on my bank account lol. Turns out the conncector where the harness plugs into the hub had a bent tab on the inside. A pick and 5 mins of cleaning out the connector seems to have solved the problem. No more ABS light. And it only cost me $24 for a case of Heineken

Just had mine rebuilt by Cheap-ABS. They did the repair for $99 plus shipping each way. Pulled it myself and mailed it off and had it back the 4th day. Works great and have had no issues with it.

Do you know what their warranty is?

Hmmm no light, that's odd. Have you checked the wiring? Maybe there's a problem somewhere and it's fooling your car into thinking the wheels are spinning.

And no, not really. The best place I could find to do abs scanning was like the franchised do it all auto place, and even then they don't have techII. To my experience, they can pull codes but when it came to the module being bad they just told me it gave them an error saying it couldn't connect. So best to find someone with a techII, but if not do the best ya can.

Starting back in January, I started having problems with my ABS and TracOff lights. I took my car into my favorite private garage who has been doing work on my car for a long time and I trust them. They scanned my car and said my right front hub was bad. They put on a new one and everything was fine for a couple of weeks and then I started having problems again. Even when no ABS lights were on, sometimes I could feel a "rapid pulsing" in the brake pedal. Every time it happened, it scared the s**t out of me. I had the garage check my ABS system and they said the new hub was bad. They replaced it for free and everything was fine again for a week or so and then the old problems were back. My ABS and TracOff lights come on as soon as I start driving. My car is going back into the garage next week for another scan to see what's wrong once again. I find it hard to believe that I would have 2 bad hubs.
I have read all of this thread about the control module being bad and am wondering.....If I remove this module and send it in for rebuilding can I still drive the car with non-ABS brakes? Is this safe?
