The way I did it was to put some on the pan and smear it around with my finger. That way you ensure the entire surface is coated lightly and consistently. Right STuff should work well.

Slim - it's structural and makes changing the mount and or pan gasket about a bazillion thousand gazillion times easier than that dumb horseshoe pile of crap bracket.
