It's probably the same comcept.... I'm not exactly sure if you would need the same resistors, nor would I know how to test for that lol.

x2^ should be similar, just tear it appart and check the voltage to the bulbs, get your leds and use the calcs to get the correct resistors

when looking for resistor values, it is a simple manipulation of Ohm's Law. V=IR or voltage = current X resistance. measure the voltage, look at the package your LED comes in to find the current and then you get V/I=R or voltage divided by current = resistance. so in a 12 volt system, where the (forward current) of the led is 30 milliamps it would look like this:

    12V/.03A=400ohms

so you could get away with pretty much anything between 380 and 420 ohms. the 4th (or 5th) band on a resistor is a tolerance. a silver band is plus or minus 10% so a 400 ohm resistor could be anywhere from 360 to 440 ohms and be in spec. a gold band (plus or minus 5%) is 380 to 420 ohms. if you want to use an online led calculator, try this one:

    LED calculator for single LEDs

    hope this helps...

BTW, good thread, and great job!

There are also these available so you don't need to worry about soldering or finding resistors:

Im not so worried about the instalation. That I have covered. what I want to know is, is the lcd screen on the dic self back lit, or does it have a couple bulbs. i havnt tore one apart yet. the unit is self contained. just plug on the back.

    thanks

I asked them this question myself, and here is the reply I got:

    Rick,
Sorry we don't have a cross reference for dash/instrument bulbs. We suggest calling your local dealer or checking the online forums for your vehicle. You can also compare your bulbs to the ones on the links below. And use the "more info' find information such as dimensions, brightness, beam pattern, amp draw, voltage, and colors available for the product you are interested in. Click on the thumb nail of the product and then the "more info" button below the picture. This will take you to the specification sheet for that product. Using this feature will also allow you to compare different products.

^ Right on, aaahhh well, I had to opt to buy my resistors off ebay since it appears that windsor... and also detroit are allll out of 560 ohm 1/2 watts.

I woulda so went the bulb route if i knew they existed... i been sitting here with a dash cluster trying to figure out how to put led's on it since it doesnt have a real pcb board in the back to solder to. problem solved as soon as i track down all the bulb numbers and count the different colors. im leaving the cluster stock colors just want it brighter and deeper colors and no more burnt bulbs. ill post any bulb numbers i find and can verify, may just have the dealer give me a print out.

small ones are type 74 big ones are normal 194s these bulbs pop out of the twist part so you dont have to buy the wedge style like you would for the dic, which i dont know the bulb type for since mine are long gone. below is a crudly drawn picture to show the colors size and number of each, from super bright led's its over 80 bucks for all of them... gonna be a bit before i do it, or buy the cheap hong kong style for cheaper...

I soldered it today after the resistors finally came the mail...
I've been looking at that stainless bezel for some time now, but I think if I get it I'm going to paint it to match the rest of the dash.
