thats pretty cool, i never thought of that. it is an auto after all, but its different. i kind of like it.
Has anyone removed the gate between D and 3 so you can shift down without depressing the button? I was going to on my '97, but never got around to it...
just did this last weekend and like it soooo much better. it no onger feels like a ford aerostar shifter. wasn't as hard as i thought it would be. just take your time and measure twice and cut once.
ahhh man looks gnarly i wanna do this but im afriad ill break something so nvm haha
so do we cut the yellow piece to size?
yes. you will have to cut it to length and grind the sides down so it will fit into the knob. in his write up he said to cut it to about 3/4". i actually left mine a little long and kept test fitting the knob
i might actually do this soon =] is there anything i can screw up? also i have a GTP WITH performance shift on my shifter sooo... any differnt ?
i took everything apart to the point of the cutting part, but i got lost. the diagram said to measure 1.5" but aside from the yellow plastic piece, am i also suppose to cut/trim the metal sleeve as well along with the indented markings?
yes. but when you cut the metal shaft don't just cut straight through it. you want to be careful not to cut through the yellow plastic piece. you want to trim all around the metal shaft untill you cut through it. it took me about 20min. to finally get through it. then once that's done you can trim the yellow piece down to approx. 3/4"-1". i think mine worked out to be right around 7/8". after you cut the yellow shaft you will have to sand it down as it's to thick to fit into the shifter knob and then cut the grooves into the metal shaft. use the piece you cut off as a guide on how far down to cut. the two long groves/slots (running from top to bottom) are you shifter knob alignment slots. these are what keep your knob from turning. the other two slots are the locking slots where the metal u-clip slides into.
OK THIS IS A HEAD SCRATCHER FOR ME, SINCE I SAW UR HOW TO, IM WAS ASKING MYSELF IF MAYBE U MITE KNO SOMETHING ABOUT MY ISSUE, MY GEAR SHIFTER BUTTON STAYS STUCK. WHY I DONT HAVE A CLUE BUT I HAVE TO BANG ON IT MORE THAN SEVERAL TIMES TO LOOSEN IT UP IN ORDER TO PUT IT INTO GEAR. ANY IDEA??
have you done the short shifter mod? if so you might need to take the knob back off and grind down the sides of the yellow shaft.
if you haven't done the mod i would take the knob off and spray some wd-40 down the shaft. mine was kinda gummed up when i did the mod and a quick squirt of wd-40 freed it up
not as retarded as u hahahahahahahahahahaha
That actually looks pretty pimp. It does stick up way to far and gets in the way of things if you ask me.
