    Curious situation:
1999 GTP. Wifes car, just took over driving it 3 weeks ago.

She told me that every once in a great while, the boost gauge will show full boost at start up. If you try to drive it that way, the engine will die a few miles down the road. She said justturn the key off, wait a couple seconds, and it will go away. I noted it, but forgot.

Yesterday, I drove it with the boost gauge maxed because I wasn't paying attention. It died. Cut to her reminding me over and over "I TOLD YOU"... lol

Anyways, pull neg cable multiple times, no change. gauge still maxed out.

tow it to my father in law's shop, and hook up the snap on diagnostics. No codes. While waiting/standing around, I unplugged and replugged the boost solenoid. That's it. turn the key on, boost normal, car runs and drives just fine. My father in law is a great mechanic, mostly diesel, and claims there's no way that's what fixed it. Has to be the map sensor. I can't find anything like this scenario online, but that has to be it, right?

He says the solenoid is an output only, that it's controlled by the computer only, and can't be the cause for the shut down/not starting problem I had.

My theory is the PCM monitors the throttle position sensor, maybe a couple other inputs, and uses that to control the solenoid. If it sees that the solenoid is showing a full boost vs. minimum throttle scenario(or other input) it shuts it down for engine safety.

So who is correct? Were the computers that advanced back then? Looking for confirmation. Ftherinlaw vs soninlaw bragging rights are on the line...

Good info! So I guess that would lead to the question: Does the PCM kill ignition to prevent overboost situations?

in the tune it can kill timing and injectors to reduce engine output and rpm but it should not kill all power and make it not run
