I have an 02 GP that I purchased new and now have 150,000 miles on her. A few weeks ago i filled her up with gas and since then the gas gauge needle fluxuates constantly reading anywhere from full to almost empty regardless of how much gas is in the tank. I keep a close eye on the odometer to determine how many miles I have driven since filling the tank to prevent from having to walk. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to correct this situation? The fuel level sensor/swing arm dealio needs to be replaced.
Dorman makes a replacement part and is pretty simple to replace. Remove the fuel pump from inside the trunk and install the new part and away you go.
The fingers that run across the circut board wear off and or break over time and now it can't read correctly.
Just youtube bonnieville fuel level sensor replacement and watch the video's. Explains what I am talking about pretty well. Though it's on a bonnieville the replacement is nearly the same on a grand prix. Don't pay attention to the prices he paid and where he got the parts as the video is pretty old.

I am working on a brake issue on my truck at the moment but as soon as it comes off the lift I will tackle the fuel level sensor unit. With 150,000 miles on her and planning to put another 150,000 on her I am strongly thinking of replacing the entire fuel pump module assembly and avoiding having to go into the tank for hopefully a very long time. Not sure what the life expectancy is on the fuel pump but that is the direction I am leaning. Thanks again for the input.
