The column harness goes to-amongst other places-to the BCM (little pigtail inboard on the end that points towards the floor); it's POSSIBLE the new HU & adapter could be the final straw... but it's more likely a coincidence! Either way, it sounds like your BCM is well past it!

When you say "well past it" do you mean that it's most likely time for the BCM to be replaced? Sounds like these go bad eventually? Our '05 has 170,000 miles on it. Are these expensive to have replaced? Sounds like they need to be programmed at the dealer when replaced so it's a dealer fix?
