i pull behind my local stores and raid the card board containers out back. take a large box cut it in 1/2 good for working on and under the car and catching drips. its free no cares about getting more.
you can slide out from under a car on a sheet of card board so easy compared to with out any.

Or if you walk into any store ever and ask for boxes they will give them out like candy. At Menards a guy was moving so we saved a mornings worth of boxes for him and left them in the bed of his truck and by the time I left you couldn't see the truck anymore.

Yep, that's what I did, ran down to the local grocery store and asked them for a couple of boxes. Pizza boxes work well, too, but we didn't have any of those. That's a weekend item, I guess...lol. And yes, you do slide better on cardboard! I'm going out to put the cardboard down and take a few pics of my cleanup job before it starts pouring......

The top pic is of a new mount from AZ, mine is the bottom one. I see now just how smushed mine really is! lol About 2 mins. after I got outside it started pouring down rain, so I am waiting on putting down the cardboard till it stops.
I did clean it really good, so why is it looking so oily? Is it because there's still fluid coming out of it when it moves?
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
id find and fix your leak before doing the mount. as the oil leak will just kill the new mount.
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
Factory mount is hydraulic (aka filled with fluid.) Things that leak in that area...oil pressure sender, front crank seal, oil filter gasket, or oil filter housing gasket. And last but not least, that stupid stock mount.

That's exactly what I plan on doing, that is, if mother nature decides to cooperate. :th_eyesrolling:

I've already eliminated the oil pressure sensor/switch/sender, the oil filter gasket, the oil filter housing gasket and valve cover gaskets. Oh, and didn't see anything wet coming from the balancer area either. I know the oil pan does leak right where the "pointy end" is, that is, nearest to the mount/bracket. After this rain I'm going to re-check everything once again, just to be positive.
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
Just finished talking with my eldest son and he's buying a house with a pole barn, so in about a month he'll be moving there. Another $64,000 question...lol...will it be ok to drive it as is for another month? I'm thinking it would be, but would like to know what others have to say about it, if you would, please. I only drive it 2-3 days a week and not long distances. He'll have a cherry picker then, too, and all 3 of the boys will be helping me. :th_dancingbanana:
Actually what'll end up happening is them telling me to get out of the way and just "supervise". LOL Fine by me......
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
Just check the oil level regularly and if it smells like burning oil I wouldn't drive it. Depending on where its leaking I'm not sure if it would effect oil pressure. But scotty and other should know, my 3800 doesn't leak any oil ;)
Just coolant....

Will do. Don't know if I'd rather have a coolant leak or an oil leak...lol.
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
Coolant all day, because the oil pan is a bish to replace or any of the other spots they leak from.

Neither are good lol. Both can be hard and easy to fix depending on what it is. I'd say drive it once, and check the area and see if it's horrible already. If not you could wait and keep checking
Just fix the leak Russ lol
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
what you need a cherry picker for?
motor mounts can be done with a floor jack and a 2x6 across the trans and oil pans, unbolt the mounts jack the engine up so replace.
you'll want to change the trans mount 99% of the time when you do a motor mount.
oh take the two strut mounts off before jacking the engine up, aka dog bones.
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
As it looks as if the rain is done for awhile, I think I'll take it out for a spin and bring it back and let it sit on cardboard over night.
I saw a couple of videos for replacing the motor mounts and the oil pan and both looked easier for us to do with the cherry picker. I'm not really sure how to do it with the 2x6 and a floor jack, haven't seen any videos or write-ups on doing it that way. I want to do both the mounts and the oil pan at the same time.
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
ok im on board now, lifting the engine should help a ton when doing the oil pan. that things a pita.
Re: Pics..Help me find cause of oil leak.leaking on side of passenger tire behind eng
Yes, it IS going to be a pita! Instead of trying to do it in a parking lot, I'd rather wait and be able to work on it inside a building. No worries if it rains, etc.

My first reaction...YUCK! Motor mount looks soaked in oil and there was a bunch of oil sitting in that bracket that mounts on top of the motor mount. I've watched a couple of videos on replacing the oil pan, which I need to do but don't want to attempt it myself (and can't afford to pay big bucks that some places charge to do it) and I've seen what a new mount looks like and mine is actually mushy on the end that faces the rear of the car. Would that be because of the oil dripping from the oil pan?
I don't want to hijack this guy's thread, should I start another thread and post the pics in that thread?
Your fine. Are you sure it is not the oil sensor. Mines is the oil sensor. When i started up my car i seen oil dripping from it slowly but Im sure as i drive the car the oil pressure goes up which cause it to drip more
Are these channel locks fine to replace the oil sensor? Dont judge them, i left them outside in the rain once lol
