Hey guys, started having a new issue with my car this morning and hoping someone can help me diagnose.

When my torque converter locks up, my car seems to shudder or lurch forward. It also seems that my rpms drop a couple hundred when this happens, before coming back up and staying normal afterwards until I let off the gas again. Also seems to happens when I first hit 3rd from a stop, I'm assuming because 1-2 don't have overdrive? Basically whenever the converter locks and it kicks into overdrive in 3-4 is when it happens.

My shifts are still nice and smooth as they've always been, and the torque converter stays locked even lugging it up over hills as far as I can tell. My car has 143k, my tranny fluid was changed at around 136k, so pretty recently. Car has a transgo shift kit and a tune. I checked and the car isnt throwing any codes, not even pending. I have a bad front wheel bearing on one side, though I wouldn't think that has anything to do with it.

Really hoping it isn't going to end up being anything major, like replacing the torque converter...but if it is I want to know asap

Sounds like convertor shutter, probably like you are expecting.

I don't know of any other fix than replacing the convertor, fluid and filter swap, and snake oils (I prefer ProGuard, and have had luck with it)

Also, with a bad bearing, I'd be replacing it, because that could cause a half shaft wobble.

Let's see what the experts say
