Thread: running horribly...bad connection?

Alright 2001 impala with the 3.8l v6. For quite some time the car has been running terrible and I finally decided to tinker with it. So I just changed out the fuel pressure regulator because the vacuum line going to it smelled like raw gas. It helped the car run a little better but it still runs bad.

So I re scanned the car for codes and got the p0102, p0443, and the bank 1 sensor 2 heater circuit malfunction. I recently replaced the maf with a jy unit to try and fix the p0102 code to no avail. I also fixed the first 4 inches of maf wire on the pigtail end to no avail. So while I was tinkering with the car today I found that one of the wires in one of the "wire blocks" was not even remotely connected to the block. So while the car was running I stuck it in and after a few seconds the car died. So I went ahead and did the maf test and unplugged the maf while leaving that one wire plugged in and wala the car stayed running, horribly but it ran.

So question is....could it just be that there is another break in the wiring I should chase down or could this maf be bad as well? Will upload pictures soon

Also figured now would be a good time to mention that my sister had bought this car even though it had an engine fire at one point in its life.

is that a second wire snapped off in the pic? the black looking wire? or is that a metal wire holder thing? hard to tell.

either way you need a new pig tail for end for that. cut one off a junk yard car and cut your off then solder and shrink tube it up.

Isn't there a way to repin the one wire?

if you open up the plug there maybe a way to push the pin out, then you need to find a new pin for the end of the wire, easier said then done.

this is why a new pig tail works.

maybe find one at a junk yard, and try to pull a pin with a wire on it out of the plug, then you only have to solder one wire. if you can get the pin out. sometimes theres a little lever/lock next to the pin you push and they come right out, others not so easy.

Looks like we will see how this plays out. If it doesn't happen after work then it won't happen again until the 20th, finally getting a vacation

I repin stuff like that all the time. Since I never bought the right tools.. you just need a pick..and a good one from a JY or old harness. Pop the safety grey piece that holds the wires from coming back .. out .. then you should be able to see the tab holding the pin in.. from the inside of that connector use your small pick and it'll pop. Drop in your new wire after you connect it to the other end and poof.. put your safety piece back in
