Just finished a cam install on my Impala yesterday, and now I have a pretty good oil leak coming from the front timing cover area. While I had the timing cover off, I replaced the front main seal with a Felpro one that came with the timing cover gasket. I pulled the balancer back off to reveal that the metal spring that sits on the inside of the seal had come free and wrapped itself around the crank. So I replaced this seal with another Felpro unit, and I still have the leak.

    So my questions are:

-Has anyone had any experience good or bad with the felpro front main seals?

-Any ideas where else the leak could be coming from? (new metal timing cover gasket and blue loctite on the bolts)

Supposed to be driving the car to Canada tomorrow. Most likely will replace the seal with a OEM one tomorrow, just wondering if I'm missing anything.

Often the seal will have worn a slight groove in the crank where it was riding for years. I've scuffed that up with a green scrub pad etc to help the new seal actually seal up. Another person I know found some other part I think it was a sleeve to help the seal.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I used this. It leaked for a week or so then in stopped. Think the seal needed to wear into the new sleeve.

Just an update on this, the two felpro seals both leaked. I even pulled the harmonic balancer off of my regal which was not scored at all and it still leaked. So I drove my other car 60 miles to the closest dealership that had the seal in stock and put that in. It was MUCH tighter on the hb and has not leaked a drop after driving 200+ miles from central NY to Toronto. So beware, felpro front main seals, the ones that come in the timing cover set, in my experience do not work at all.
