I have an 02 Grand Prix with a dual climate issue. The driver side blows hot and the passenger side blows cold. Except if I hold the slider temp knobs to hot then it'll switch to hear like it should. Anyone ever heard of this? If so what's the fix for it? I've spent awhile searching but for people that have had the similar issues, no fix was given. Only people saying blend door actuator but that's cuz it stopped working completely where as mine kind of works. Thanks for the help.

You shouldn't have to "hold" the sliders in the hot position. They aren't spring loaded or anything, shouldn't move when you let go of them. If they do that, I would guess that theres a problem with the control head. The actuators certainly can work just partially, had that happen before. The gears inside don't always crack in the same place so each is different.

Guess I could take the passenger actuator apart and see what it looks like inside. I just bought the car like this and read somewhere if you push hard and hold it then the heat will come on. I didn't save the link and disregarded it. The temp knobs slide up and down like normal without any stiffness or looseness. It's just my heat only works on the passenger side if I push the knob hard for a couple seconds.

Well, if you have the actuator off check the post that it fits onto, to see if it is very hard to turn. I have had trouble with the valve actually being too stiff for the actuator, so see if you can move that with your fingers or if you almost need pliers to turn it. If you can't turn it with your fingers there may be trouble in the heater core box. I have not dug into that area yet. I removed the RH actuator and for now I just open the glovebox door and pinch the box to let it drop past the stops then reach in and turn the valve like a knob, to cold or hot. Just remember if you monkey with it much, to try and get the actuator and valve back to the position you found then in, for reassembly.
