Need advice on stuck plug wire boots

I have a plug wire that i can't get off at the plug. I can't even get that wire to turn either by twisting it at the boot. Over the years i've destroyed perfectly good wires trying to get them off by inadvertently yanking them straight out the boot. What's really making it difficult is those damn heat shields are in the way making it impossible to get a good grip. Those heat shields aren't really necessary are they?

No, the shields are not.

Anytime they have gotten stuck on me, I've gotten a pair of pliers and wedged them between the head and the plug wire boot, and used a quick popping motion to get them loose. All else fails, tear the ***** off and get a replacement set, and be sure to use some plug grease.

You can even buy Spark Plug Boot Remover tools as well. Most of your auto parts store should carry them.

I do the same, well after I ripped mine off... Mine would turn but the metal clip was on that spark plug so tight. (aftermarket wires) From now on I feel where that clip is exactly and get the pliers right on it so it doesn't rip off. Assuming the heat shields aren't there, well if they were I'd bend them up and just remove them and reinstall without it.

Those usually only end up leaving you with busted knuckles and a still stuck on boot. They're great if the boots are only sort of on there, but as soon as they are stuck, it's a no go.

What's also making it difficult is the wires are in the back, #2 and #4. Plus those wires aren't that old and i really don't want to **** them up. I used silicone grease when i put them on but obviously it wasn't enough.

You might be able to get a wide straight-slot in there, rest it on the top of the spark plug, and try to pop it loose.

I only wear gloves when I'm tugging on something, knowing i'm about to bust my hand. The gloves come on and off non-stop.
