O my bad I meant valve spring compressor ..
Oh gotcha... well ive used the claw spring compressor and the push down kind.. the claw one was easier, but i have heard good things(even before this thread) about the lever kind they are talking about... the next time i change my springs i will be trying that one out
Yeah the ls1 looks like it would be easier and you could have both hands to work with not sure it it would work tho?http://www.ebay.com/itm/190673501726...84.m1423.l2649
I was under the impression that everyone went with 105lb springs because the beehive design actually was easier on the valvetrain?
I mean ive been running 90's for about 4-5 years now lol thats about 40-50k on them
or just run L76 (G8 GT) springs they are 90# but have similar ramp rate to the 105 and our stock springs.
So if I'm keeping my stock shift points I won't have to worry about valve float with the modded 1.9s and stock springs?
Yea you do possibly. Keeping old used valve springs isn't exactly going to help. Seriously don't do rockers if you aren't prepared to change the springs .
think of it this way... with mod'd rockers the valves are traveling up and down further. this extra movement will increase the chance/ onset of valve float. as valve float is when the spring can not close the valve fast enough...
like said if upgrading valves or cam, springs should be upgraded also.
If you keep your shift points stock...sure you could probably get away with it. With any added lift with either cam or rockers these motors (stock springs) seem to float pretty easily. It's added insurance and in mean putting a better quality spring. Especially if you have a higher mileage motor the springs are probably nice and tired. Refreshing with a better spring is always a good suggestion.
