I have a stock 2002 GTP with 55000 miles on it. It's my daily driver never raced or driven hard. When I go to start it up this morning my Low Coolant Light on the dashboard was on. The rad. and the overflow both are were they are suppose to be. I let it run awhile to to if it was going to overheat, never did went through cycle just fine. Any ideas on why my light came on and stays on now. Thanks for your help.

If the radiator is full of fluid (remove the radiator cap and check it is full to the top, not just the overflow tank), then it could be a bad or clogged coolant level sensor. The sensor isn't too expensive. I am thinking less than $30. Some people have had good luck just removing the old sensor, cleaning the end of the sensor, and cleaning the hole it goes into really well. Other just replace the entire sensor and it works fine. But I would say that is your problem.

This image might help find and remove the sensor:

Did you park somewhere at an extreme angle? I would get that in my Trans AM when ever I park at my dads house. his driveway is at a 30degree angle.

If you are quick enough with your hands, it can be done without draining any coolant. I did mine that way and lost very little, but just have it ready to go in your other hand.

Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto would probably be cheaper. Typically oreilly's is the chepest from what i have found on parts besides rockauto.

Yeah, you can do it without losing much coolant. But since a lot of them get gunked up, I would suggest pulling the old one and letting the coolant that comes out drain into a drain pan. Then clean out the sensor hole to make sure there is no debris in the way that could prevent the sensor from doing its job correctly (and showing a false light). Then install the new sensor.

    Just my advice.
