Thread: GT or GTP for MPG?

You sure you don't got that backwards??

GT's are 9:4.1

GTP's are 8:5.1 for compression ratio.

And 3.29 final for GT's and 2.93 for GTP's.


Either way they can get the same mpgs within reason if driven the same way. Cost for fuel on a GT will be less than a GTP has they requre 91+ octane. But thats such a small amount.

Do you drive City or Highway more?

I get 15-16mpg City and 28-33mpg Highway. I would suggest getting a GTP.

GTP is way funner on these open Texas highways.

Buying a gp gt is like buying a v6 Fbody.

Well, here is my opinion, you talk about Top Swap later, save your time and money. Get a GTP, slap a cone on and enjoy the WHINE!!!

Not much of a difference between the two, just get a GTP and be happy that you didn't waste your time buying a GT

unless he wants the high compression and boost... I like my topswap. plenty of power off boost and runs strong when in boost. in normal driving i never have to go past 30% throttle and never hear the blower.

A gtp will get better gas mileage highway so long as you don't get a comp g. The 2.93 gear ratio is great for highway mileage.

I have a comp G, so it's a GTP with 3.29 gears... my average is usually between 20-22mpg, but my daily drive home from work is up 2 mountains and through 2 towns with a bunch of stoplights. I cleared it over the summer at the beginning of a 3 hour all highway drive, and when I got home (6 hours on the interstate, cruising about 70, mostly flat), my average was 29. My old GT was about the same.

And yeah, as some have stated, I also got a GT first... not knowing the options out there... I spent time modding it and looking back I feel like it was wasted money.. though it was good experience for when I did get the GTP.

Spend some time looking on autotrader, do some haggling, you can get a GTP in decent shape for cheap and then have a higher starting point for any mods you wanna do. It's a lot more fun, and the whine is addictive, it catches people in their civics off guard when they get cocky!

My untuned 05 Base model got 29 MPG (Manually verified) at about 70% highway 30% city on Ethanol free 87 octane.

If you're worried about gas mileage, get a Geo Metro.
