Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
I wouldn't push that after seeing those compression numbers.
I think you should visit crappy before they close and get a proper spark plug.
NGK TR55 because they're cheap.
Do you see blue smoke on startup?
I know it's been kinda cold lately, so a lot of condensation will be expected.
How old are the wires?
Check for continuity from the O2 sensor connecter to the PCM. If they check out, you likely need a new sensor. Alternatively the PCM is dead or dying.

you would'nt push what scrapping the motor cause i dont think its going to need that i put proper tr55 in there and same outcome on just that 1 cyl
white smoke out the back but that just the oil in the chamber for the test no blue smoke only white coming out. if the pcm was dead i think id get more codes then just the 02 one but thanks for helping matt.
this cars got a mint body on it so i wanna keep this powerplant if possible so iam going to take it to a shop tomorrow and get then to yank of the front heads and have a look at that 1cyl from top and bottom just everything iam thinking point towards the head. and that was not touched when the cyl was replaced the first time time so maybe the mechanic never got a good look at the head before he put it back on.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
you got money to burn, i could use some. if its rapping and knocking and misfiring on cly 1, put a fork in it, its done. why spend another dime on this engine?
post a vid of this knocking sound you got. if you can that is.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
White smoke means coolant after all the condensation is done and over with.
If that's the case, either the head gasket is shot, block is cracked, head is cracked, lim gasket, supercharger O rings or TB gasket.
If it were me, buying a new engine means it gets new LIM gaskets, VC gaskets, supercharger and TB gasket. Also a new oil pan gasket.
You need to figure out what's causing this oil leak. If it's the head, it's likely to be the valve seals more so than anything else.
If you bring it to a shop, they'll go through the whole thing all over again. I have heard Steve's on Simcoe is pretty reasonable though. Hell just asking them to take the front head off is an easy 5 hours of labour. Around here, that's an easy $300-500.
I should just go look at this thing already haha.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
hahahaha iam dying to rip that head of her brother for sure.
there is no oil in the anitfreeze or rad at all i can only see oil out the exhaust but i will post it up
i dont really care for much on the price cause the car is good but just to slap another 200kms motor in there i"ll be dealing with the same problem in no time.
my dad was also willing to buy to new heads from zzp to slap in there if those lowers enigine parts are fine but wont know that till i get a mechanic to rip the heads off.
i'll post a vid for you scott tomorrow as well. ofr the rattle
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
if your going to throw all this money at it to save this engine just toss the engine and get a low mile L32 and put new lim plenum coolant elbows oil pan gasket in and toss it in the car
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
The bent plug means something was in that cylinder bouncing around. The three prong plug will hold up better, but are there any marks on it of impact?
My theory based on your compression etc is that you chipped a piston. And while a compression test is working, you are getting some oil blowing past the rings. Hence where the oil is going.
What octane fuel do you run?

i think you might be right...... anyways she in the mechanics going under the knife(head off) lol hopefully find out tomorrow a bit and have a look at our beautiful first cyl .
yeah new 3 prongs show no signs of being hit just covered in oil which probably also means my injector and 02 are going to be shot as well. lucky me
zzp going make a boat load of money off me in the next couple of days get me a price for a crate motor from them and id swap that in.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
Just see Terry at Terry's Engine Centre.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
Why a crate motor from zzp? I'd just find a low mile L67/L32 swap it in and call it done. If you really want to throw money at this GP, then go turbo.
Your injector is likely fine as it is not going to get oil blowby on it from the cylinder unless the valves are trashed. 02 might be junk if it's got that much blowby.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
thanks for the heads up fordman :) My pops is in command here lol he said if even that 1 piston is chipped he wants all 6 replaced and then we go from there. he does not want any more problems with this car. if its heads both get replace ..... etc etc if you see what i mean so unless the block is cracked i highly doubt he's just going to throw another l67 and pray that one does not have the same crap happen to it.
hey matt you got a link or number for terrys? so i can give him a shout
I was actully really happy with the way the stock car runs maybe a cpu tune for better shift points but if zzp offers a rebuilt complete finished engine and my dad see's that it would be orderd pronto
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
well, your dad is tossing his money away, but carry on, its your money, not mine.
PS: huge waste of money is gonna happen here. this shop time to "look" at your old engine and the cost of a ZZpoop crate engine will now be worth more then the car its self. then the trans will blow up cause thats what they do. your dad needs a good talking to.
if you found a used engine for say 500 or so, then another 500 to install it cause clearly your not doing it and your done, back on the road.
go the way your thinking, and well your looking at around 3 grand to invest into a car thats worth 2 grand. some how im thinking theres lots of rust under this car, and the strut towers are either shot or on their way. that being said, look over your rust, you could find another gtp for less then what your dad is willing to spend on the new engine.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
Scott..he's in Canada. Used motor is probably a billion dollars.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
a used car would still be cheaper lol
and Canada = rust dont it?
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
Rust in Canada doesn't necessarily mean cheap.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
Engines are cheap enough. I already linked a bunch on the previous page.
Labour is the killer.
If it quotes 10 hours, that's $1000.
This months engine replacement came to 2500 for an ecotec in a cobalt.

Well your wrong again scott this car is mint its never seen a winter and has zero rust on it thats reason why iam keeping it. oil sprayed twice a year and gets what it needs. If your junk is worth 2000 then maybe thats how you keep your cars then.
then what just to buy another gtp then what 10000kms down the road its something else no thanks not going to take the cheap route .
if i wanted the car just for the road i would have bought a beater civic for 500 and call it that and run it into the ground.
cant wait ot find out the answer tomorrrow on what it is and if its a simple crack piston which seems the most likey cause right now i change thenm all zzp makes money mechanics make money and iam happy with a wicked running car. if i was'nt so busy at work i would have had that motor out already by myself.
Labours going to be my only major cost at worst but my boss part owns that company thats looking at the engine so i'll get charged a pretty cheap rate or next to nothing.
Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
Not a good idea to possibly offend someone who could be helping you out on your issues. He's referring a good portion of the prev gen only being worth $2k ish due to age, mileage and major of them being rusted. Ever check the kbb you might be surprised on what your car is really worth rather even though you believe its worth more.
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
if terry does full rebuilds with the motor out and you think hes good matt i'll go that route as well and get my mechanic to swap the motor in or out. got a number? for him
Re: Help find out whats going on with my 1st front left cylinder
225,000 kilometers is not a low mileage engine. That's still pretty up there. I want to know how you have a 140,000 mile car that has never seen a winter.
