brakes wear out. news flash. i did all 4 brakes with pads/rotors in last 5 yrs. sure had hoped that car would be gone. you gotta move on sometime? kid said front brakes were noisy. 1 pad was down to metal. messed up rotor. turns out caliper piston was seized too. put all new parts on. this was in july. last week kid said rear brakes were noisy. damn. turns out 1 rear pad was down to metal. rotor is messed up too. other side pads were at 10%. looks like new parts time. caliper pistons pushed in easy. felt smooth. caliper pins look good. not gummed up or cruddy. not sure why the brakes wore out at 40k miles? its life i suppose. but changing all 4 rotors kind of sucks. i thought rear pads last forever? we are on 3rd set now

Depends what pads you get. Ceramics are a harder pad, last longer and are overall a better pad. However they wear rotors faster because of this but at the cost of rotors nowadays and how cheap they are your better off replacing them every pad change anyway. If you buy cheap store brand semi metallics they wont last long.

Yea what pads are you running? I had EBC red (still on car) for the past 40k or do and they still have a bunch of life in them.

Also exactly how hard is the kid beating on the car? I think I went through my first few sets in about 25k each just driving like an ahole.

Sounds like your kid is driving kinda crazy. Have him pay for the parts himself and have him to do the work. Maybe he'll stop braking so hard. Also, let him know that the extra money for rotors was because he isn't paying attention to his car.

This. Seems like he's driving/braking hard. Hell my stockers had plenty of life left when I switched to EBC's. Had around 50k when I swapped them.

I have Hawk Performance Ceramics and after 30k they look brand new. Just dust a whole lot.

He's lucky he got 40k. I had an in-warranty replacement pads. 2 was worn right to bare metal after only 2k miles. Yes, 2 with only 3 zero's. I don't even use the brake that hard or that much.

Got a nice rotor at boneyard for $8. Went over to kids place and put it on in 15 min. she only drove car for 1 day. New pads should be fine. Genki, I think ur calipers are dragging if u only get 2k miles?

Maybe it was. No matter, the motor blew up so I won't find out if the replacement would last more than 2k this time
