I've got a leak in the A/C high side service port and need to replace it. I had assumed that I just use two wrenches, one to hold the hex welded to the high pressure line and the other to loosen the valve. I feel like I'm going to twist and break something. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone tell me how to correctly remove the service port?

You may just need to replace the shcrader valve.

This post is super old, but I would second replacing the Schrader valve first. You do not want to twist the weld off or you'll be replacing the whole line assembly. Although that would fix your problem.

I cant remember if I am confusing this with an intrigue. There may not be a traditional shraeder. Is there a black rubber looking material down the center? You may have to grab the bottom with vice grips and the upper portion has 2 flats on it that you get a wrench on.

No Schrader valve. People say the cap is the primary seal but if I can get the port off without any troubles I would like to change it. I was running mine without a cap for years....no wonder I was losing freon. The port is leaking, slow, but definitely leaking freon.

Ok so I ordered the socket and the new high port valve (no Schrader valve btw). I put a 5/8 wrench on the bottom and using the special socket I can't get the valve to loosen. I didn't put a lot of pressure because, like the original poster, I feel like the aluminum tube is going to bend.

I sprayed with PB blaster and will try later. Any issue you guys can see if I use a torch to heat up the valve?

    Thanks

When I did it, I had to put a lot of pressure on it. I thought for sure something was going to break but it didnt. Good luck, It was scary for me too. However Ive done it twice now, once on an intrigue and the Grand prix. Both were tough but the line ended up being fine.

Got it off. Get the socket. Brace bottom with 5/8th wrench.
