    Key code?

If you are talking about programming a new PK3, all you need is a programmed key. Put the previously programmed key in the ignition, turn it to the one position. Take it out and immediately put a newly cut key in and start the car.

If you are talking about the code to cut a key.. it's not on the car. Dealership can cut you one from your vin.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Was hoping the code was in the vehicle somewhere, the Stealer wants $125 for the code and $150 code with new key.

Lost your key and no back up?

I was afraid of doing the same so I bought a key off of eBay then had it cut, and programmed it myself. Now I have a back up just in case.

I saw a video on youtube on how to remove the ignition and retrieve the code from the tumblers. I'm going to give it a try this weekend.

call any gm dealer with your vin # they will tell you the code. then go to a lock smith who does auto keys by the code they will charge you 10 to 20 bucks, you need the # to give to them.

and yes ive done this before.

I know, the price for the code is what's bothering. The Dealer will only give you the code in person, with proper documentation of ownership. If you know another way of getting the code without traveling to another state, I'd be happy if you share.

Call a locksmith. Everyone locksmith has a site just like the dealerships do (I know because I deal with the locksmiths and I work at a dealership). A locksmith that is up with the new times should be able to retrieve a key code just like a dealership can and then can cut you a key. He would likely also need all the same paperwork to do it but just another option.

I wouldn't go to that dealership, they are charging because they WANT to charge for the code and that is rediculous. I charge $10 to cut the key, the cost of the key, and tax. Just have to have all the paper-work I need to file, and people still throw a fit over how much it costs. No dealership is required to charge for a code, just document that you are THE OWNER beyond a shadow of a doubt and log it in a filing cabinet in cause of an audit. Just a way to keep GM and the owners safe. No need to charge for the retrieval, takes 2 minutes.

I see your location says NJ, what dealer did you go to and how much did they charge. I'm just not willing to part with $125 for them type a vin # into a computer.

i called beyer brothers, were i got the truck from. you may want to call the 800 GM phone # and see if that dealer is legit with that 125, thats some BS.

maybe the 800 # will be able to help you out. they have the same computer that they can search your vin with.

Thx, will call Beyer tomorrow and see what they say. On the way to Longhorn yesterday, I passed 2 dealers and the parts section was closed. I'll give them a call as well.

Does anyone know how many digits are used and are there letters in the code.

This message was from GM customer service, Is this true or is this just to get me to the dealer

You would have to come in and have the l cylinder replace through the dealership. If you do this repair by yourself, and get a key made to work with the ignition. The vehicle will go into lock up mode because the car would think it was being stolen. In my comparative search for the best pricing I discovered that Multi Chevrolet in Union, NJ has the best quote of $125 -175 for the lock and $50 for the key. Thank you for letting me know that you travel to New Jersey and Connecticut that's helped with the price point the other places were too high. I hope you get this issue resolved. Let me know, if you need any other assistance.

Just two weeks ago I went to my local Buick dealer to have a key cut from VIN for my daughters Saturn. Cost $9 per key. Chevy dealer about a mile north of them quoted me $80. Call a different dealer.

what a crock of sh1t. keep checking dealerships as you see them. have the title or registration with you to prove its your car.

this info should be f'ing free. all you want is the code, then take the code to a lock smith.

any GM dealer has this info, gmc buick chevy caddy, you name it they all have access to the info via the vin #.

worst case, call a local auto lock smith, they can make keys on site, and program it to work, but they are also not cheap.
