Yup.
My yearly maintenance is to blow out my drain tubes with an air compressor. Some times I will even pour a little bleach down them and flush them out to keep things from growing in there and plugging them up.
I like the idea of covering the sunroof with plastic and taping the edges really well and soaking the whole top with water from a hose and sit and wait/watch.
That's how I found my trunk leak. I got in the trunk with a flash light, and had somebody outside with the garden hose.

Re: FAILED 2nd attempt at the sunroof leaking
These are very good ideas, that i didn't even think of. I found the leak is dripping off this silver round part of the sunroof motor, it seems almost that its leaking under the sunroof motor itself. The plastic idea seems like it would work well. Other wise I was thinking of possibly doing a whole entire headliner/sunroof tear-down when it gets a little warmer outside :th_depressed:. As of now i have a t-shirt shoved into the opening for the interior light. If anyone else has any other ideas feel free to chime in.
Re: FAILED 2nd attempt at the sunroof leaking
Does anyone know the best way to get to the 4 drains? Do I have to remove the headliner to find them?

removing the headliner is the only way. You have to leave the headliner in the car, since its too big to fit through the doors
Re: FAILED 2nd attempt at the sunroof leaking
Ok, I think i fixed it! It was thunder storming, raining like crazy yesterday for a few hours and I put a paper towel where the water would run down. I checked it at the end of the day and the paper towel was still dry! My theory was my sunroof window was out of adjustment, leaving the window slightly opened, letting in too much water for the tubes to drain, Here's what i did to fix it...
-Locate the 6 torx bit screws that hold the sunroof window in place from inside the car, there will be 3 on each side, 3 above the passender seat, and 3 above the driver seat
-I loosened all of them, letting the window move around freely up and down.
-eyed it up to the outside so the entire window was almost flush with the roof, just so you can see the rubber seal sitting ever so slightly above the roof itself.
-tightened them all down good, then tried the switch to see if the window opened and closed properly, and it did, when the window closes properly it will sink in just a tad and seal up well.
so far no leaks yet :)
Im still keeping my fingers crossed :th_praying:

Thats nothing. My ttop seals are $180 a side and the sunroof seal for my jeep was $1300.
Re: 3rd attempt at the sunroof leaking
My sunroof still leaks!!!
Anyone with a 97-03 gp w/ sunroof step in!!
Im thinking of replacing the entire sunroof assembly...
Re: Sunroof still leaks...
I found the probem. FINALLY!
My sunroof rail is cracked. I found it yesterday, its in one of the corners and water is running down the valley of the sunroof, going through the open crack, running down the passenger pillar and down the opening for the sunroof switch and onto the floor and shifter. What a whore. Ill take pics, in case anyone else runs into the problem. Im ordering a newer entire sunroof from an 04 monte carlo through ed morad. I believe there are 2 different style sunroofs
97-99's are one design
00-03's are a different, better made design.
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
God. What a pain. 9 months with a leaky roof.
CG on finding the official fix. :th_thumb-up::th_thumb-up:
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
LoL thanks man, I am kind of on my own with this one, no one else seems to have this exact problem. I guess because the majority of the community have 00's-up
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
Update: Today i picked up my new 04' monte carlo sunroof that i had ordered through moradpartscompany. They were extremely helpful and got me a mint condition sunroof. I put it in and all seems to be well. Ill update on the next rain storm.
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
Did you ever fix the leak? My 05 does the same thing. Its the wifes car and I got in the other day and it smelled like mold. I asked her about it and she said "Oh yea, water pours in from the lights?" GRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr. She said its been doing that for 6 months when it rains.

Sunroof wind deflector ftw it works till you fix the problem of adjusting the sunroof. eBay sells them for like 50 bucks or so for a 10 minute fix.

that would be your on-star antenna leaking. That's a very common problem with the 04-up gp's. As i understand you just take off the antenna and glob some sealant under it. Should fix you right up.
and as far as my sunroof, yeah its finally fixed, its been a few months and im happy to say I fixed it :D
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
OnStar antenna sounds like a common problem however, I have a low end model with no OnStar (no antenna).

What this about the wind deflector? My next step was to adjust the sun roof.
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
so was it broken drivers side towards the back of the car is? i traced my leak to there. and now im **** outa luck. im broke and i dont know what has to be replaced. any pictures would help a ton. thanks in advance.
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
Yeah, I'd like to see some photos, too. Is there an easy way to bump up to the newer design and not change out the whole roof assembly? I'll look mine over well to see if I see anything cracked. I'm still dealing with a small leak somewhere.
Strange thing I noticed is that one day after it had rained, I went to open the roof and it acted as if it was having a hard time. It is fine, though, when it's dry out.
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
whats the diff between the two roofs?
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
I had an issue with water coming down between the lights... Pulled up the onstar antenna and a little silicone later i was drip free!
Re: Sunroof still leaks...FOUND PROBLEM FINALLY
Is the onstar anenna bolted in underneather the headliner? Does the liner need to be removed? I've got the same issue going on.
