THanks for the info fellas.
db what clamps did you use? I'm looking at these, it looks like I would need:
Dynomax 33231 Dynomax Strap Band Clamps x2
and
Dynomax 33272 Dynomax Strap Band Clamps x2
I think I'm going to have him just go catless for now and ignore the ses light until he needs to get an inspection. Then he can decide if he wants a sim+hollow cat or a $100 high flow Magnaflow w/o2 bung
