I'm unsure why or how to fix/what to fix. But my car has an issue with the power steering, it works fine when turning the wheel to the drivers side, but most of the time doesn't when turning towards the passenger side.

    Any help with this?

That sounds like a bad gear box.

That's my initial thought, I'm a little rusty with these cars though. So I'll ask a lot of questions for a while.

I was hoping I missed something, cause replacing the rack can get expensive.

i got a used rack for 75, and spent 4 hours installing it myself. then dropped it off for an alignment.

Was it difficult? It's one thing I've never dealt with, a little scared to.

its not the worst job to do. i wont lie, it kinda sucks if its your first time. theres a few good how tos out there. the only part i skipped in most of the how to's was not to remove the master cylinder to get to the power steering pump lines, they can be reached just fine from underneath the car.

all the write ups say its a 2 man job, i did mine solo, the only help i had was a friend to wiggle the steering wheel to get the steering shaft back on the new rack.

took 4 hours, from start to finish, like tools cleaned and put away done. so maybe 3 hrs of real work, a few breaks and such.

i also backed my car up on ramps, then jacked the front up and used jack stands under the front, this adds a bunch of room under the car.

Any specialty tools needed or just the basics?

Should be just the basics. Although IIRC, one (or both) of the lines at the rack require an 18mm wrench, which not everyone has.

yes, the lines are 18mm, a 3/4 with a dime taped to the inside of the wrench also works. thats how i got mine off. then i phoned a friend to drop off a 18 mm line wrench to get them back on nice and tight with. lol

Nothing special. I like to lower the back of the subframe for a little extra room.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
