The U-Bend is located after the cat and before the flange to bolt the down pipe to the catback. It was gm's way of a better location of the o2 sensor for the cat. All that o2 sensor does is monitor the cat to make sure it is working right. It does not control fuel or anything like that.
You may be better off picking up an off road downpipe...But now that i think of it i believe atlanta does emmisions. When you buy an aftermarket downpipe it comes with the u-bend already deleated. May be a better option then welding cutting ect.
It may be ZZP that has it, but someone sells a short piece of pipe with a flange on it so you can just cut out that section of the exhaust and bolt it up on one end and weld it up to the cat and it comes, obviously, with the O2 bung so you can re-install your O2 sensor.
But, as TDC stated, if the option was there it would be better to buy a complete downpipe because I think you can get those in a bolt in option and you can get them with the catalytic converter so that you remain emissions legal.

There is a picture of what it looks like.
If welding is not an option then go with a new Downpipe with a Cat.
