Resonator piping question?

Okay so first off, the piping connecting to the in/out of the resonator are 2.25" on 97-03 Grand Prix GTs right? Then smaller after the Y? My question is, I want 2.5" all the way from the cat back to the mufflers but don't want to remove the resonator. Would a muffler shop be able to make that work or would they have to do all 2.25"?

it also splits at the Y, so yeah a $25 glass pack will work in place of the old res.

Why would it take 2 more weeks to get a glass pack? And yes, might as well replace the stock resonator while your up there doing exhaust work, they are prone to rusting out, iirc they are one of the first things to rust out on our exhaust systems.

Because I'm 17 and not made of money. I just bought two mufflers, a pair of tips, filled my tank, and have to pay my own insurance and car payments. Think I've just got money laying around to spend on new parts? Haha I've got just enough to get it installed.

No point to run 2.5" but if you want 2.5" res back an exhaust shop could easily do it.

I'm getting 2.5" now so that I won't have to later. I plan to do more work in the future and don't want to have to redo the exhaust if I don't have to. Might as well just replace the resonator now.

if you need to wait to buy a glass pack, wait and have all that stuff welded in at the same time.

im guessing you still have all stock pipes and need to have it welded in.


or you could save the shop costs and get a new Y pipe and then have a flange welded to one end of the glass pack and you'll have all new cat back. seem the Y pipes for around a 100.

you need a resonator or it will sound like crap. glass pack does the same job as a res and a 1/4 the price. google up a walker res for your car, it looks just like the pic i posted above. and it costs 120 bucks.

nah you can do both.
a glasspack is a resonator, the shorter it is the louder your car will be. since you are already getting aftermarket mufflers, you CAN stick with your stock resonator, or get a 30" resonator to make sure it doesnt drone.

Alright, I got flowmaster 40s for now(they were cheap, I had a gift card so they were practically free, and they are temporary, don't hate haha) so I definitely want the most effective resonator possible. I'll look into a 30" glasspack, at least until I have money to get better parts(such as magna or borla).

thats a list of Y pipes for sale, if you plan on changing the mufflers later, you'll need to get them off and on easy like, welded will be costly in the long run. as your paying two times for the same job.

id get the new Y pipe, a glass pack, get a flange from the local muffler shop, have them weld it on the glass pack. then go home and put your new cat back in. call the glass pack 50 bucks, the flange cost me 10 bucks, and then another 15 i think i paid to have it welded on. so for under 200 you could have a new cat back because you have the mufflers already.

this way you can work on it yourself in the future. takes nothing to drop these exhaust systems.

So for bassically $510? Throw in another $200 I could've bought a pre-made ready to go cat-back.

How did you come up with $510? $120 for the y pipe, $50 for the glass pack $10 for the flange and $15 to have it welded. My math skills aren't the best but that does not equal $510.
